Appointed as retained jockey by Wathnan Racing, owners of Courage Mon Ami amongst others.
October 30, 2023 at 20:11 #1668625I thought he would leave at some point but was hoping he got the job as 2nd rider at Coolmore, plenty of opportunities to win G1’s as shown this season
October 30, 2023 at 21:52 #1668631Thought that too. Plus of course the chance of being no1 at coolmore. With the firepower the lads have for the next few seasons I doubt Ryan going anywhere soon.
October 31, 2023 at 05:22 #1668652No2 job with the boys in blue would be perfect for a certain young Billy ..
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
October 31, 2023 at 08:38 #1668659I wondered that as well, HDLG. He has ridden a few winners for Appleby. The official line is they are not appointing a second jockey but Buick cannot be everywhere.
October 31, 2023 at 13:11 #1668676Rossa Ryan is the best young jockey out there
I’d be holding out for the Coolmore job if I were himGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
October 31, 2023 at 14:38 #1668686Probably wanted a 1st retainer jockey job again instead of feeding on the Appleby/Suroor scraps that Buick discards – being second to Godolphin, I doubt that he viewed being second jockey at Coolmore (assuming it was even available) as being anything different.
This new operation looks to be quite an interesting move – hopefully that means he will now be on Courage Mon Ami and will actually ride the horse a lot closer to the pace than he has been the last few times he has run.

November 2, 2023 at 03:20 #1668794They’ll need to buy a lot more horses: https://www.racingpost.com/profile/owner/325088/wathnan-racing/horses
January 22, 2024 at 23:00 #1678229Yeah, Rossa Ryan is excellent and flying atm Nath. James Doyle is an exceptional rider, better than Buick pound for pound, but obviously Buick has long been first choice.
