Nobody deserves to check-out at such a tender age, but I’m finding it really hard to give a sh*it about all the attention it’s getting.
February 21, 2009 at 21:07 #211586I do not begrudge the girl making a few bucks out of the tragedy.
However I find the media feeding frenzy just all wrong. Cannot understand the morbid fascination and voyerism filling up hours TV & newspapers as the most important news at the moment.
Maybe it’s just me? I find the press intolerable at this time. They just seem to take huge pleasure in hyping up bad news all the time. There’s a recession, a plane crash or a natural disaster etc and it just looks as if they are loving it all.
February 21, 2009 at 22:40 #211614I have the utmost sympathy for anyone who has suffered from this terrible disease and for those who pass away at such a tender age.
The anger directed and judgement passed on this poor girl is wrong.
The behaviour of the media during this time has been nothing short of astonishing. It’s this OTT coverage that has angered many and, in return, Jade Goody has been the target of some vile reactions.
Her decline in health has hit the headlines in all aspects of the media and you can’t read a newspaper, browse the internet, watch TV or listen to the radio without being told how long she has left, what her family are doing, how much she is making and the details of her wedding, which is now being aired on Living TV, I believe.
It wouldn’t surprise me if her funeral is also televised and there’s little doubt that DVD packages will be available for Christmas.
Jade is making the most out of this somewhat morbid interest to financially secure the foreseeable future of her two young children. You can’t blame her for that.
She has more than likely made a few quid from her past ventures, so it would be a nice gesture if she donated a portion of her earnings to a charitable cause ie cancer research.
She’s made the most out of the opportunities life has bestowed upon her during her stint in the limelight and attained more from her seemingly limited talent than many who ‘boast’ superior intelligence or credentials.
Many have questioned her morals and integrity but, in my opinion, the only respect that matters in life is self-respect. The decision to acquaint herself with the Bible in the wake of her imminent passing somewhat illustrates her fears and regrets. To quote Meat Loaf from Bat Out Of Hell "Then like a sinner before the gates of heaven, I’ll come crawling on back to you."
A little ignorant perhaps, but I believe that as long as you help yourself and don’t hurt others in the process, no one can complain. I can’t condone her well documented actions in front of the camera, but it’s difficult to ascertain what’s ‘for show’ and what’s real in the unpredictable world of reality TV.
I’d like to reflect on the saying ‘When you point the finger at someone, there’s three pointing right back at you.’
I’m not a huge fan of Jade or reality TV, quite the opposite perhaps, but her success, to quote paulostermeyer, "perfectly illustrates this whole sorry personality obsession that we seem to have in society."
I wish her a peaceful passing, surrounded by her nearest and dearest. I hope her family and friends find strength to overcome her death and that her children are given the best possible opportunity in life.
That’s the least anyone deserves.
February 21, 2009 at 23:42 #211634What is happening to Jade Goody is bloody awful and anyone without sympathy I’m afraid is a sick human being.
"A vile racist"? For calling Shilpa Shetty Shilpa Poppadum? For F**** sake crime of the century, hang the girl now!!
God bless you Jade.
Perfectly put Ian…
February 22, 2009 at 00:37 #211639and a very good post Bosranic
As has been pointed out before, few people seemed to have the same outrage at john diamond and Ruth picardies public diaries of their tragic circumstances
As for the "racism"…it was ugly bullying more than anything else (goaded on by two unpleasant housemates) and the comment were certainly a lot less offensive than prince harrys or certainly less vile (and repeated) than ken livingstones jew baiting remarks
February 22, 2009 at 03:52 #211679John Diamond and Ruth Picardie dealt with it in the way they knew best; they were writers and so they wrote about it; Jade is doing the same in her own way…. I just find it difficult having to see pictures of her on the front page of most newspapers…..I’m sure that everyone feels sympathy for her; I certainly do, but it doesn’t stop me questioning the way that it’s being portrayed in the media and the obvious need that people have to read about it….yes, I do glance at the photos if I’m in a shop, but it makes me feel like a rubberneck and I feel wrong for doing so.

I think that’s a very insightful observation, Moe. I’m always a bit suspicious of people who tell others how to live their lives or in this case how to die. (I’m as bad as anyone else at it btw, but I’m also content to recognise I’m a hypocritical gobshite nobody
)It still all seems a bit unreal to me.
February 23, 2009 at 00:39 #211807I agree with Bosranic’s post. Personally I usually turn the page at anything related to celebrities or reality shows in the press, but I can’t deny this one has had me rather hooked, along with presumably a large percentage of the population that wouldn’t normally give her time of day. Yes the coverage is obscene in it’s relentlessness, but it what she wants and it’s what it would appear we viewers/readers seem to want too. We’re all caught up in the same game, and however much we dislike it all, we can’t deny we’re a part of it.
I hope she had a lovely day, and that she has many more lovely days before the end.February 23, 2009 at 01:03 #211813Could`nt agree more Ian.
There are many people out there who will sadly meet an untimley death but given the chance i suspect the majority would take every avenue available to them to make sure their dependents are financaly secure.
I have nothing but admiration for Jade
March 3, 2009 at 03:22 #213164would not wish it on my worst enemy….god be with her and her children

March 22, 2009 at 22:46 #217905How surreal this has all been; I hope she doesn’t become some sort of reality tv icon…but, I must say she’s been incredibly brave throughout all of this.
March 23, 2009 at 00:16 #217934Her plan worked out well and I don’t blame her. She’s looking out for her boys. I feel for people who are in the same position but will not make any money for their loved ones because they did not have a chance or want to do tht tv thing. You know what I mean… Felt uncomfortable about it all really and did not read too much about it either. RIP
March 23, 2009 at 01:57 #217966Just wondering: in what way has Jade been ‘brave’? and are people who die of cancer in private, and don’t have pictures of themselves looking brave in newspapers – ‘cowards’?
I’m also suprised that nobody has made the point that, for all her raising money for her children – her children are millionaires anyway! How much do they need? More importantly did she give anything to cancer charities?
I know there are probably more appropiate days for making these points but asdfghjkl. She wasn’t Jane Tomlinson.

I did make that point, NWRA, though your timing could have been better.

Ahh so you did make that point, and very well too. I skimmed the first page, sorry.
