Frankie Dettori and Victoria Pendleton are the latest to be given an involvement.
Now where’s the remote control ?
Time to hit the off button.October 17, 2016 at 10:34 #1267562Oh dear added on also is the very irritating ‘chummy’ Alice Plunkett woeful!!
October 17, 2016 at 10:49 #1267564So that’s eighteen presenters in total, according to the link above, for a dying product.
That’s the most bloated corpse I’ve seen since that dead blue whale off the coast of Australia a couple of months ago.
October 17, 2016 at 11:23 #1267566Here’s the RP summary
There are ten words that fill me with dread
“with Mick Fitzgerald set to be prominent throughout the year”
October 17, 2016 at 12:33 #1267573Utter madness!! Are all those presenters really needed? And a lot are part of the failed CH4 product.
October 17, 2016 at 13:49 #1267587So we have
Ed Chamberlain
Oli Bell
Matt Chapman
Rishi Persad
Richard Hoiles
Mark Johnson
Mick Fitzgerald
Alice Plunkett
Haley Turner
Jason Weaver
Luke Harvey
Brian Gleeson
Sally Ann Grassick
Frankie Dettori
Victoria Pendleton
Lucy Verasamy
Brough ScottI seem to have one missing
12 male (inc 2 Irish, an Italian and Rishi) and 5 female.
Fairly diverse. Not sure if there are any LGBs in there though now Clare’s gone
October 17, 2016 at 14:38 #1267601You have not included Francesca Cumani
October 17, 2016 at 15:02 #1267607Thanks DG. So that’s 1/3 female, 2/3 male. It does seem a lot although some will be Jumps only and some Flat only, whilst some I guess, like Brough Scott will only be on occasionally. Not sure what Vicky Pendleton will add to the programme. Maybe it’s to try to attract the casual viewer. The “will bring her perspective” seems very vague to me
October 17, 2016 at 15:15 #1267608The repulsive Plunkett gets in. The mind boggles, it really does.
Turner, Pendleton ……….. come on WHY?
Luke village idiot Harvey, Mick grate voice Fitzgerald.
Top team ITV. I won’t be watching and I suspect neither will many other “potential” viewers. This project has failure written all over it even before it starts.
October 17, 2016 at 17:50 #1267629If people want to have a go at Mick Fitz for his presenting skills or lack of knowledge fair enough but the man only has one voice for pity’s sake. There’s not much he can do about it.
For me it’s a mixed bag. Delighted to see Brough Scott making a comeback and I am looking forward to seeing Victoria Pendleton’s genuine enthusiasm for the sport. It’s a shame that Simon Holt isn’t making the move but for me the biggest issue with ITV’s upcoming coverage is still the complete disappearance of racing from ITV1 for 10 weeks until Cheltenham. There definitely appears to be a flat bias as they’ve announced today that another Saturday has been promoted from ITV4 to the main channel, the Northumberland Plate. What about Cheltenham Trials day or the Betfair Hurdle?
October 17, 2016 at 18:36 #1267640Can just about understand why most of them might be on the list with the exception of Brough Scott.
Very pleased to see there are no real form boffins.
I will be watching in the hope that it provides a more entertaining alternative to ATR and RUK.

I thought Oli Bell batted for the LBGT side.
October 17, 2016 at 19:10 #1267643People you need for a racing programme:
1. Presenter

There speaks a voice of reason.
You will not be understood by those behind this flight of fancy I’m afraid.
What on earth Pendleton brings to the table is beyond me ?October 18, 2016 at 10:35 #1267694People you need for a racing programme:

What on earth Pendleton brings to the table is beyond me ?I sympathise with the general slant about a surfeit of presenters, but you need two presenters really. You want differences of opinion/approach to provide an entertaining experience for the viewer.
Let me explain about Victoria Pendleton (or any other non-insider contributor a broadcaster might use from time to time). This sort of “what does she/he bring to the party?” complaint is quite common.
Victoria Pendleton is someone who bridges the vast chasm between dyed-in-the-wool racing fans and the general public, she’s someone who might light a spark and get people to think, “Maybe I should find out about this”. Nobody’s suggesting she’s going to be on as a form guru or breeding expert.
Most racing commentators and broadcasters seem to take an almost sadistic delight in making the sport as impenetrable as possible to outsiders.
Nobody wants to be served up baby talk, but do we really need to have a commentator saying, “…and with seven-and-a-half furlongs to run…”, rather than, “…with just under a mile to run…”?
Pre-race, what would a casual viewer make of, “…they’ll be looking for some black type with this one…”? It’s gobbledegook, yet people within the sport bleat about how racing gets so little coverage in the non-specialist mainstream and sports media.
October 18, 2016 at 11:01 #1267697If you can give me examples of sports coverage which doesn’t use the jargon associated with that sport I’d be very surprised. Most of the people who watch racing on tv will be familiar with most of the terminology used, and I don’t think that newcomers are likely to be that put off by the odd word or two that they don’t understand.
I shouldn’t think Victoria Pendleton is a big enough celebrity to draw in many new viewers, hence questioning her value to the coverage is valid in my eyes.
October 18, 2016 at 11:35 #1267700All sports use jargon to an aextent, but racing is the worst in terms of trying to keep it just for the converted by its use. I’ve given you two examples above.
And of course, “Most of the people who watch racing on tv will be familiar with most of the terminology used…”. Well yes, most will, all few hundred thousand of them. That’s what I’m getting at.
If Pendleton isn’t a big enough draw from outside the sport, who do would put up in her place?
Some monosyllabic ex-jock? Some otherwise unemployable ex-public schoolboy? Some vacuous clothes horse prancing around in silly hats and dresses?
