Davies’s menace doesn’t lie and has him down at 88%. When you are studying markets and fine tuning bets and making last minute adjustments it is a distraction to hear the click team highlighting the obvious. He has been known to turn the volume up at the end of the race, to feel the passion and to hear a description of what drops down the helter skelter.

A lovely notion on all levels, gamble, but the reality is somewhat more prosaic….

    1. This time of year I am rarely even at home to watch at all, but there was no Point-to-Point yesterday for me to attend.

    2. When I do, I genuinely have it on mute the entire broadcast the overwhelming majority of the time.

    3. When I want to know something – like what Paul Nicholls has to say about his other runners that day as I’ve linked them in a (related contingency theory) multiple in case he suddenly returns to form – I invariably regret it as the bonehead with the microphone never asks what I want to know.

    4. I’ve been ceremonially knifed by the Constitutional Head Of State in this fine Parish who, as he withdrew the blood-soaked royal blade, invited his legion subjects to join the regal pile on.

    5. TTC evidently never has to be asked twice for a rumble and promptly set about me with a Machete, used with eye-blurring precision and speed, suggesting considerable experience with the weapon.

    6. Et Tu Brutae? Yes, even you, gamble, managed to put your herbal tea down for a moment to administer a few fatal blows.

But if I’m going down, it’s all guns blazing, as Richard III said: “Let us go to it, pell mell. If not to Heaven, then hand in hand to Hell!”

I do NOT listen to ITV Racing! is my war cry.

    And that’s my final word!

Bogey never said “play it again” he said, “you played it for her, now play it for me”.

:good: But in the ears of many Plugwell and idiosyncronatically so, if that is indeed a word, they actually hear him say

    ” Play it again Sam ! ‘

    *raises hand*
I have to confess that I too find the presenters so dire, with a couple of honourable exceptions, that I watch it on mute.
But wish to point out my viewing of this awful programme only takes place when I have no other option available.
    UP THE REBELS!
    good luck to all

    A simply brilliant posting, sir!

ITV Racing is the racing viewing medium of last resort and absolutely must, like a Victorian child, be seen and not heard!

Mick Fitz today stated the Champion Hurdle was “wide open”. An interesting statement bearing in mind there is a long odds-on jolly.

I really do not understand why seemingly everyone here rates Richard Hoiles so highly. The Reynoldstown today had a measly six runners; it was a full 71 seconds into the race before he had given them all a mention.

One would have thought it a basic of commentary to let viewers, and more importantly listeners, know how their horse is getting on.

Ed Chamberlin’s performance was littered with errors, he said Goshen went to 1/33 in running and got beat. That Two for Us had won and when previewing next Saturday’s racing said it was on tomorrow. Maybe he was still dreaming about Tiger Roll.
I’ve noticed Richard Hoiles has done a number of commentaries without actually going to the tracks he’s commentating on, not today obviously. Not sure I approve :negative: although I’m sure ratpack prefers staying in Berkshire than going up to the likes of Musselburgh.

“it was a full 71 seconds into the race before he had given them all a mention.”

He’s not the only one – Hunt is even worse.

They seem incapable of performing the basic function of briskly taking you through the order in which the field are racing.

    It’s dire.

I was out at Horseheath Point-to-Point today getting windswept, drenched and caked in mud, but I’m reading plenty of negativity about today’s broadcast on social media.

Hoiles appears to be a ‘very nice knowledgeable chap’, but I find myself homing in on his incessant non pause for breath dull tones.

It goes on and on and on, and even when the race has finished he is still there ‘tidying up’ with little titbits until it’s time for the interview with the jockey still on horseback.

O’Sullivan and one Irish commentator I can’t name took/take their time during the race. Started off, slowly going through the field as they made their way round and slowly building up to the crescendo as the pace quickened as they neared the home turn.

Hoiles is at it as soon as they are off, it’s the same at the start as at the end, although a bit more shouty, trying to inject some passion, some personality into proceedings.

I find it too informative, and quite boring.

To be fair, GSP, it’s not Hoiles’ fault that he has to talk incessantly. That’s part of the current television zeitgeist that gaps are unacceptable.

However, it is the commentator who is at fault for not keeping the audience accurately informed during the race.

I don’t really see the necessity for any commentator to keep naming the horses. If you should know the colours of what you have backed.

“I really do not understand why seemingly everyone here rates Richard Hoiles so highly.’

Not me. To me he’s boring. Boring commentator, boring presenter. I watch the race on one of the other racing channels where possible.
