A jarring note on their ‘Race Tracks’ archive feature (quite apart from the Rick Astley track in the background.)
The spiel below the footage of the ’87 Scottish National stated it was Toby Balding’s Little Polveir. Would have had poor John Edwards choking on his cornflakes. Toby didn’t get the horse till shortly before the 1989 Aintree triumph.
Shame they don’t ask us old buggers about things like that.
April 18, 2026 at 21:54 #1764238Can’t believe that was nearly 40 years ago I remember doing Little Polvier in the ’89 National.
The more I know the less I understand.
April 18, 2026 at 22:01 #1764241That’s some serious after-timing. 😂
April 23, 2026 at 14:20 #1764555Noticeable that they didn’t bother to send anyone to Newbury on Saturday although that led to more horses being shown at Ayr.
Is this due to budget cuts or so save money to pay the wages of a certain egotistical ex jockey this summer?April 25, 2026 at 16:50 #1764841I was amused that during her paddock commentary Alice thought Thistle Ask was a mare. To be fair, she did describe him as masculine-looking.
April 25, 2026 at 19:34 #1764849She also inexplicably identified a couple of “fillies” in the 1.45 too (all runners were geldings).
April 25, 2026 at 20:52 #1764856Yesterday, Adele said that Field Of Gold had literally doubled in size.
April 25, 2026 at 21:09 #1764858She likes the word literally.
The more I know the less I understand.
April 25, 2026 at 21:18 #1764860Same words & phrases crop up every time, regardless of the context. They might as well employ a team of parrots.
April 25, 2026 at 21:59 #1764865Maybe it is time for Plunkett to be pensioned off? She has had a good run at it and I don’t believe she could have any complaints.
April 25, 2026 at 23:19 #1764867I’d certainly be fine with that CAS. Fair play to ITV for employing more female presenters but the disparity is clear for all to see. Male presenters: high profile champion/Grand National/Cheltenham Gold Cup/classic winning jockeys (though an impressive racing career doesn’t necessarily make a good TV presenter, as we’ve seen). Female presenters: young (mainly) blond women who are relatives of male high-achieving jockeys or trainers, some with amateur low-grade race-riding experience. Hayley Turner being the exception. Some have done OK. Megan was awful at first but has grown into the role and is now one of their better presenters & Adele isn’t the worst they have but, for all ITV execs think this promotes diversity in racing, it actually highlights the lack of it.
April 25, 2026 at 23:30 #1764868I have never understood why the one person ITV took from the C4 team was Plunkett.
All she contributes to the show is to constantly tell everyone how wonderful they are. I watch most of my racing recorded and she is a guaranteed fast forward every time.
Now, don’t get me started on the camera angles today
April 25, 2026 at 23:31 #1764869Just watch Racing TV if you dont like ITV’s coverage.
It’s fine for me and much more preferable to Luck and his chums. It really is that simple; if you want in-depth, wall-to-wall expert racing analysis and in-depth coverage of the merits of horses and the races then stick to Racing TV.
You have a choice.
April 26, 2026 at 00:17 #1764870I actually think Alice is fine as a presenter, though was amused by her slip up as I say.
CAS, perhaps I am being overly sensitive as she can’t be that much older than me, but she seems a bit young to be being “pensioned off”! I suspect your comment more related to her longevity as a presenter than her age though.
April 26, 2026 at 02:04 #1764871Yes Wilts, you have a choice of paying to watch racing or not. I actually like ITV coverage but that doesn’t mean I can’t criticise it, especially when presenters make basic errors, like being unable to tell the gender of a horse when it’s walking a few feet in front of you.
April 26, 2026 at 04:32 #1764872“if you want in-depth, wall-to-wall expert racing analysis…”
Are we talking about the same Racing TV? Most of their “expert” analysis is pitiful, hence the cancellation of my subscription some months ago.
Getting back on topic, I don’t mind Plunkett: she reminds me of my neighbours’ over-friendly Labrador, in that she’s always happy and nice to everyone. I far prefer her to the braying Cumani.
April 26, 2026 at 06:34 #1764874“I suspect your comment more related to her longevity as a presenter than her age though.”
You are correct, Marlingford. I would never dream of casting aspersions about Ms Plunkett’s age.
