Those who make today’s programmes would just take that as the view of a dinosaur.

To be fair, dinosaurs were around for over 160 million years. I don’t envisage ITV Racing lasting as long.
Funny you should come out with something like that on the very day I have my annual health review, when I will let the doctor know that I am older than the NHS and, despitea few issues, I’m in far better shape. (Our NHS Trust has just gone back into special measures after a short remission).April 14, 2017 at 10:22 #1296688ITV doing racing proud today. Six races from the AW Championships and three from Newcastle.
April 14, 2017 at 11:50 #1296692Diasaster from a viewing figures perspective. They really do need to let The Opening Show go back an hour and give it a crack on ITV1. Just 30,000 viewers is very poor indeed.

I think I read that the afternoon figures are down as well. I watched, yesterday afternoon and it was possibly the best I’ve seen. Perhaps it was Hayley Turner talking sense or Plunkett not screeching so much as well as. Alternatively it could be the absence of the jumping team. What does strike me is I find the presenter better than Chamberlain, far better…..or maybe it was less of Chapman phrenetically rasping around the bookies.

Couldn’t agree more. Yesterday was excellent and Olly is really good. He has a great energy and sense of humour and is very natural in front of camera. Importantly he also loves racing and is very knowledgeable unlike Ed. He will almost certainly be around for many years. The danger is we lose him to other sports as people catch on. Hayley really adds to the coverage as well. She offers so many interesting insights about things we wouldn’t normally hear about and her research is very thorough. Also love the Weave! For the first time in years I had no compulsion to switch to ATR or RUK.

April 15, 2017 at 10:11 #1296845I might just add that it helped yesterday that there were two meetings being covered. The action came thick and fast and it was all about the racing. They need to learn that the best way to attract viewers is to have passionate people talking passionately about racing and not pandering to “first-time viewers.” We don’t need features on the history of horse-boxes, we want to know who the professionals think will win and why. We don’t need to have the rules explained for us – that’s what Google is for! Do you hear them explain the off-side rule in football every match? Or what LBW means? Keep concentrating on what is important – the horses, the sport.

April 15, 2017 at 13:17 #1296898Can you explain who the ‘we’ is?
I would take the completely opposite view to you regarding Bell, Turner and Weaver. I think they offer next-to-nothing. The one thing to take from these threads is that you are never going to please everyone.
It was inevitable that ITV Racing would be pitched at a different level to RUK.
In my opinion they are going to struggle to sell the Flat season given a relatively dull presentation team, dull components and a dull product. So much about Flat racing is about what happens off the track.
April 15, 2017 at 14:07 #1296906I disagree Joni, I’m not bothered one iota what the TV ‘experts’ think will win, I think plenty of punters on this forum could out-tip any one of the current pundits over a period of time.
But I do greatly enjoy the features, they are one of the things I’d like to see more of.

Each to their own David! I’m one who loves things like Monday Night Football where you have Neville and Carragher discussing the weekend games and offering their views as past players. I agree there are some good tipsters on here and I’m not bothered about their tips as such, just find it interesting to hear the views of racing professionals.

April 15, 2017 at 15:35 #1296920ITV are actually going to tracks that used to get very little coverage and broadcasting from them (something that CH 4 rarely did. Kelso and Musselburgh eg). I really don’t get why everyone is knocking them so much.
April 15, 2017 at 21:32 #1296950Maybe I’m biased because it’s one of my local tracks (I only have two!!) But it was great to see such positive coverage of Musselburgh. Hoiles was right, the course has made huge strides in the last 20 years.
Like some others I like the features. The Red Rum one and Mcilvanney interviewing the jocks during National week were great. And I liked the presentation and interview with One for Arthur’s stable staff.
The tipping isn’t a positive for me as I’m perfectly capable of picking my own losers and three pundits picking three different horses in a race doesn’t help.
Overall I’m enjoying the freshness of the coverage.
But could someone please tell Luke Harvey to stop bigging up every winning ride!!
April 15, 2017 at 22:27 #1296955When I bought a TV, around four years ago, I set up a series link to Channel 4 racing, I never missed a recording, either for the weekend or midweek coverage. When the racing was transferred to ITV and ITV4 I set up series links again. For so long it was fine, but recently the links haven’t worked. I missed the Grand National day in it’s entirety, the racing this Friday and today’s racing.
I presume this is because they keep changing the titles of the programmes.
I don’t have the time to constantly keep checking the TV schedules, like do not I have the time to watch much racing live.
I am extremely cross about this, especially missing the Grand National for the first time. Why cannot the set up the coverage so series links work? Surely that cannot be too difficult for them?
Otherwise I think the coverage is better than Channel 4, by quite a long margin.April 16, 2017 at 15:52 #1297024
When I bought a TV, around four years ago, I set up a series link to Channel 4 racing, I never missed a recording, either for the weekend or midweek coverage. No, that’s not the problem. They call it a different name and the recorder fails to recognise it. I had the same problem.
