Thousand Stars will be fav for race but for me i think OSCARS WELL can turn form around and return to near the top of the champion hurdle market.
December 28, 2011 at 19:54 #384670I think 5/4 Thousand Stars is a huge price. Oscars Well and The Real Article were kicked into touch by him last time out.
Luska Lad and Gimlis Rock are two likable solid horses but neither should have the speed to cope with Thousand Stars.
I’d give Moon Dice a great chance in the County Hurdle but connections seem intent on making a Champion Hurdle horse out of him. He could find this too tough but I’d expect a good run.
Unaccompanied is the one I’d fear most because she’s still quite unexposed. She’s done very little wrong but this is a big step up from past achievements.
Pity Voler La Vedette isn’t running because then we’d be in for a serious race imo.
December 28, 2011 at 20:17 #384674Yep, surely Thousand Stars is a penalty kick here and a cracking bet at 5/4….!
Don’t see any logical reasoning behind taking him on with the ones he beat convincingly last time out?
Unaccompanied could be a danger, but don’t see anything that horse has done to suggest she will trouble the favourite tomorrow even in receipt of the weight
With the possible suggestions aswell that the Mullins yard entered Hurricane Fly aswell and then had a bit of a ‘go’ on Thousand Stars at a better price only adds to the confidence that he will be cherry ripe and spot on to turn up and win the race tomorrow…
Easiest race of the day to work out for me and banker of the day I reckon…
December 28, 2011 at 20:37 #384679Unaccompanied has plenty of respectable form although most of it is on seemingly softer going than the official verdict. She ran a decent 2nd in the Triumph on better ground, but if it came up really soft the 10lb she receives could make a big difference on the run-in so long as she can lay close enough to the leaders. She is also a considerably better animal on the level than any of her rivals. She is also still open to improvement.
December 28, 2011 at 22:15 #384689Thousand Stars looks obvious and makes you wonder why it’s 5/4.
More importantly, what’s up with The Fly? Will he even make Chelters and would you want to be on him now?
Zip
December 29, 2011 at 09:47 #384731Thousand Stars does look generously priced at 5/4, should have too much class for these, Unaccompanied is the only danger imo.

Agree Thousand Stars looks a laydown.
Oscars Well surely needs further.December 29, 2011 at 14:02 #384775As good a ride that was from Paul Townend, I thought Ruby could have done a lot better on Thousand Stars. He made all on him last time out and given how he stays so well I don’t know why he didn’t make more use of him.
December 29, 2011 at 14:25 #384782Yeah seemed a strange tactic from Ruby?
I’m usually his number one fan and think it’s very rare you get an opportunity to question whether he could have done something differently in a race….
Bloody typical it happens the day when I’ve a fair old amount riding on him
Zarkandar is looking better and better by the day without even re-appearing on a racecourse yet!!
December 29, 2011 at 14:33 #384785One can only suppose Thousand Stars was ridden like that to see if he could quicken rather than stay on over the minimum trip with a view to the Champion Hurdle. If you thought Unaccompanied would get up the hill she’d have a live chance in March but she emptied somewhat in the Triumph over a furlong further.
December 29, 2011 at 15:34 #384794Suspect Thousand Stars needs further to be seen at his best, no doubt he is a very good 2 miler, but he looked to be staying on through the last 200 yards. Maybe a crack at the World Hurdle?

Agree completely.
The Champion Hurdle is clearly the bigger prize, and the way he was ridden – on appreciably quicker ground than he made all on lto – suggests this was no more than a looksee.December 29, 2011 at 19:26 #384841That may be the case but you would have thought they would be trying to make hay with him in Hurricane Fly’s absence.
December 29, 2011 at 19:29 #384844I dont think there was really anything too badly wrong with the ride by Ruby, i just think it was a case of Paul Townend being very clever, which obviously made him get first run on Thousand Stars.
Townend knew if he could get Unaccompanied upside the leader, then Thousand Stars would be stuck in a pocket, and would have to lose momentum, and get going again, which is exactly what happened.
Very clever ride from Townend and a very good performance from the winner, for one of a young age. She jumps her hurdles really well, gives them plenty of clearance, where as Thousand Stars seemed to jump with a few errors today.

Aye thm, but what if HF is missing from the Champion?
December 29, 2011 at 19:34 #384849That’s the million dollar question Reet!
December 29, 2011 at 19:41 #384854Nothing wrong with ride. Horse was short of pace at crucial time which Townend made the best of.
TS still looks an interesting outsider for CH
