I was looking at my speed figures for the 15.50 Kempton, and noticed that DAWNFROMTHEPAST OR 45, has run 7 times, and has so far yet to earn a speed figure <!– s8) –>
<!– s8) –>If he had been trained by Barney, I would have put him in my horse tracker <!– s:D –>
<!– s:D –>January 30, 2014 at 11:31 #466508According to my figures you’re doing him a disservice….
I have him recording a figure of 1 on 5th August last year…..courtesy of a 13lb going allowance

January 30, 2014 at 12:29 #466514On official figures, the worst horses in training in 2013 were Toepaz, rated 1 (one) and Babushka’s Girl, rated 9.
The latter did manage to beat one horse in five runs, but Toepaz was last and beaten distances that would even make Curley blush in his three attempts.
Dawnfromthepast is classic standard when put up against those sort of rivals, with an official rating of 38.
January 30, 2014 at 13:40 #466524Curley’s so-called genius is nothing to what these trainers must have who persuade owners to keep paying fees.
The most astounding aspect of racing, for me, is that, normally highly astute men lose their senses when confronted by 4 legs and a sleek coat (well, sometimes two legs, a sleek coat and a smile, I suppose), and a man in a trilby who persuades them time and time again, despite mountains of adverse evidence, that the goose they bought is actually a swan.

" Well he’s been a bit unlucky, you know. The draw a few times and he has to be held up, plus he knocked himself in his box that time i told you ‘ todays the day ‘ which was unfortunate and the fourteen horses which beat him last time all look decent. Once he gets his head infront though…"

January 31, 2014 at 06:30 #466581Just a note to say that
DAWNFROMTHEPAST
on his eight run, again didn’t manage to earn a speed figure.
I have been compiling speed figures for several years, and have never come across a horse this bad, my question is, how on earth did this horse managed to obtain a handicap mark
January 31, 2014 at 12:42 #466600The worst horse I have even seen in training was Deer Park Lord – ran 5 times at my local track in Hamilton and was beaten a total of 290 lengths and had an official rating of 1
January 31, 2014 at 12:57 #466602Dawnfromthepast has recorded several RPR’s the best of which being 39 and on one occasion was "only" beaten by 5 lengths in coming last.
The owner seems to have a lot of very moderate horses in training so presumably he does it for the fun of it. He also owns the superbly named "Officer Drivel" and a fair few others who may not be world beaters but have managed to win 27 races on the level and 4 over the jumps in the last 5 seasons.January 31, 2014 at 15:29 #466615The worst horse I have even seen in training was Deer Park Lord – ran 5 times at my local track in Hamilton and was beaten a total of 290 lengths and had an official rating of 1

Trained by that ‘master’ of his art Donal Nolan. I think he ran up a losing run of something like 450 before calling it a day in 2011. Horses were always immaculately turned out though and won a fair few Best Turned Outs.

January 31, 2014 at 20:56 #466641Donal Nolan was a regular talking point around these parts at the time, chiefly from people who were incredulous that he could keep going with such a "moderate" string.
