My favourite ad (hasn’t been on for a while) is for some cereal or something where the daughter is telling her mum how great and cool and youthful her friend’s mum is. To which the mother replies “Good for her”.
It was for some derivative of Shredded Wheat, wasn’t it?
“Sarah’s mum looks fantastic!” Grrr. High time, then, that Sarah’s friend’s mum visited Sarah’s mum and gave her a few loving taps with a plank with a nail in it, before returning home to sell her vacuous, superficial daughter in Exchange and Mart for 50p and a packet of Refreshers (ono).
(Awaits chants of “pot, kettle, black!” from Madman Marz. And on this occasion he’d probably be dead right).

November 13, 2007 at 06:15 #124474I think this new Cadbury’s advert with a drumming gorilla is vastly over-rated. At the end of the day, it’s a gorilla drumming to a Phil Collins song. Nothing special, nothing particularly well thought-out. Just a cover of ‘In The Air Tonight’, with a man in a gorilla suit.
It may not be anything special, but I haven’t come across anyone who has caught the first few seconds and been able to walk away before the end. It somehow forces people to watch until Cadbury’s is firmly in their mind – that is what makes a great advert.
November 13, 2007 at 08:08 #124486One of my all time favourite adverts is from 1979 (is it really that long ago?) and it was the Hand Built By Robots advert for FIAT Strada.
Set to music from Figaro, it was snappy shots of robots building the car – it was very snappy for its time.
There were some very corny adverts from the 50’s and 60’s like "go to work on an egg" and "put a tiger in your tank" and who can forget "beanz meanz Heinz"?
Cola adverts have also been good over the years as well, from Pepsi’s "Lipsmackin’ thirstquenchin’ acetastin’ motivatin’ goodbuzzin’ cooltalkin’ highwalkin’ fastlivin’ evergivin’ coolfizzin’ Pepsi." through to Coke’s "I’d like to teach the world to sing."

I thought it was a real gorilla Isn’t it?

Hi, I’m Jeremy – can we hop channels now, please?

November 20, 2007 at 22:06 #125978The Iceland ones with that Kerry whatshername and Jason Donovan between parts of I’m a celebrity are dreaful…
November 20, 2007 at 22:15 #125979I quite like the Post Office ads especially the one with Bill Oddie & the ducks.
I can’t stand those fronted by June Whitfield, Gloria Huniford et al, get insured you’re knocking on a bit, leave your loved ones comfortable, no medical is required and a free gift – balderdash!! By the way this is a whole life policy, if you miss your payment – tough!November 20, 2007 at 22:40 #125987why are they advertising the post offices now that they’re all closing/closed down?

Talking of the Life Assurance ones, isn’t that Cilla Black one cringeworthy? All that sixties guff first, as if they’re saying "You remember the sixties, you must need life assurance!"
November 21, 2007 at 13:50 #126080I quite liked the John Smiths adverts with Peter Kay especially the beginning of the Doorstep challenge one. When Peter Kay opens the door to Danny Baker he is saying " I don’t care whose it is it’s still floating ".
November 22, 2007 at 22:53 #126343Agree with everyone else about the "Picture" adverts, those actors need to be shot! In fact that goes for just about every insurance and loan advert out there.
Among the best adverts have to be the Honda ones, the one with the car made out of cake and jelly and the other with a choir making all the car noises….classics!
November 23, 2007 at 11:01 #126384The BT adverts are starting to annoy me now – with the family and the two kids and it all going pear shaped.
Worst advert as ever has to be the BBC digital switching over ad with the flying head made out of loads of other heads. That just made me want to vomit.
November 23, 2007 at 11:55 #126394"shiela’s wheels" adverts just make me want to shoot myself.
Also hate the laser eye surgery ads.
"Ever wondered what life would be like without glasses or contact lenses?"…… Errrr, not really because the problem with having ok eyes is i already know!!
"Now from only £1500 per eye!" Well cyclops and black beard will be laughing but surely the procedure has to be sold as a 2 eye op!November 23, 2007 at 12:17 #126402"shiela’s wheels" adverts just make me want to shoot myself.
Ladies and gentlemen….we have a winner.

Let me introduce myself, my name is Steve.
It somehow forces people to watch until Cadbury’s is firmly in their mind –
I’m obviously not “people”, because all it makes me do is think “Phil Collins, what a **********. What’s on the other side?” and then I press the remote.

Bet you watched it the first time though?
