which allows horses to drift all over the place and ruin other horses’ race and still keep the finishing position?
The runner-up would have been disqualified in any other country, but not in GB (and maybe IRE). What else do you have to do in order to get disqualified?
It’s no pocket talk as I was on the 9/2 winner, but I wanted to watch a proper finish of a proper G1 race and not that former amateur drug addict having his horse wandering all over the place.
May 6, 2023 at 17:34 #1646859Another take would be to say Oisin Murphy has somehow managed to get a 125/1 shot into second place and looked like it might have nicked it at one stage.
Chaldean didn’t exactly keep straight either in what were testing conditions.
I’m no Murphy fan on a personal level, but that was a cracking ride from a jockey evidently thus far determined to put his past behind him.

Its an interchangeable ruleDoesn’t affect the placings… would need an appeal??
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
May 6, 2023 at 17:51 #1646866Nathan, don’t you think that the runner-up drifted more to his left than to his right ( Chaldean)? The winner was the beneficiary in my opinion as the 3rd placed Royal Scotsman was intimidated an impeded twice. The runner-up drifted a total of three times. Without those drifts he might have, that’s true. But
I’m just talking about the number of drifts and the number of lanes he crossed. There seems to be no clear rule or at least not a clear definition of that.May 6, 2023 at 17:55 #1646868I backed Royal Scotsman, I’ve only watched it once. I thought Royal Scotsman lost his position early and that’s what cost him more than the finish

Ran a remarkable race as he never settled and pulled far too hard, not to mention the interference from LBB. As Weaver said, he wont fulfil his potential unless he learns to settle.
Might be worth a pop at the Commonwealth Cup although they will probably prefer the St James Palace.May 6, 2023 at 19:44 #1646896I know they won’t do it but Royal Scotsman looks ideal for the Jersey Stakes. Win that and then go back into Group 1 company in the Sussex Stakes.
May 6, 2023 at 19:55 #1646898Wouldn’t be a bad target for the runner up, IMO.

Royal Scotsman is in the SJP, but not the Commonwealth Cup. Rather surprisingly, Chaldean is entered in both those races.
Supplementary entry costs £35,000 – no Scotsman, Royal or otherwise, would willingly pay that!
May 6, 2023 at 20:33 #1646905If Royal Scotsman learns how to settle he could even stay 10f. He was running on towards the end on very soft ground after being hampered and interfered with late in the race. His dam only ran between 6f to 8f, but she was Listed class and rated 100.
His sire Gleneagles has sired a few horses with winning form at 1m2f and 1m4f. I was thinking French Derby since this is over 10.5f
