So you go into a high-street bookies and ask for a price on a horse in a Classic and not only does the staff member react like you’ve just asked them to fetch you a cup of tea and a cake but the price always come back at least 4 points shorter than as advertised on their website.
Annoying.
April 26, 2010 at 16:55 #292618I have to agree ALB!! I never bother any more with high street bookies for anything like a sizeable bet.
I went into three of them to try and back Razor Royale for the Racing Post Chase about two weeks before the event and was offered 20/1 in one when it was available at 33/1 online and then went into another and was offered 20/1 when it was available at 25/1 on their website!! And gave up then!! I only asked for £40 e/w in both shops so their liabilities would not have been exactly large!!
My advice is give up and bet online for any bet above about a tenner!!Even day of the race bets are hard to get on!! I asked for £100 e/w on Mous of Men at 9/2 and was offered half at the price and half SP!!
The list is endless and goes on and on!!April 26, 2010 at 17:02 #292620It’s not hard to just feel like you can’t be bothered. Think I might register for an online account as we speak.
I know it’s hardly romantic to go into a bookies to put a bet on but gradually the appeal is being etched away with things like this. How hard is it to correlate online prices with shop prices?…and how hard is it to click 2-3 times on a mouse and give you a price on a horse without acting like it’s hassle!!!!
April 26, 2010 at 17:27 #292626Far easier to get on in shops than online in my experience.
April 26, 2010 at 17:36 #292629I think most High Street bookies operate their online business as a separate company or group within the company therefore there is no correlation between the prices available on the two.
April 26, 2010 at 19:16 #292653Cheers for clearing that up, Pompete.
How generous of them to offer larger odds online knowing that this will lead to a number of new accounts, with punters placing more bets owing to the fact that they can do it from their armchair, and possibly mis-manageing their finance more easily.. …..hidden agendas – I should have known.
April 26, 2010 at 19:33 #292658Adam, you also have to consider that for the High Street Books that have their online business offshore – they are licensed and regulated under a different authority, pay a reduced rate of tax of their profits and equally as beneficial do not pay any contribution to the levy from the profits made online.
In theory, and I’ve heard Baldy Fred on the radio make this claim they can offer greater odds and best odds guarantees etc, because their costs are so much less operating offshore than if based in this country.
Although if that **** told me today was Monday I’d still check the calander to make sure…
April 26, 2010 at 21:27 #292686I have seven online accounts and have never been refused a bet!! Does that mean I am a loser or just lucky in that I have never asked for enough on to ring alarm bells??
