He’s best priced 7/2 now on Oddschecker for that race.
I can’t find anything concrete on the net to say either way, but something is up.
Anyone know anything?

January 19, 2012 at 23:29 #387451Must have been a blip, showing 9/1 with Joe’s now on the same site.
January 19, 2012 at 23:38 #387453I am not saying for a second that he couldn’t win it, but anyone thinking that 7/2, even if declared to run, was a realistic price, needs treatment.

I wasn’t in any way aiming that comment at you GetzippyJanuary 20, 2012 at 12:12 #387485All that aside I think they should send him if he wins the AON.
I put this to Rory last week and said that Long Run makes mistakes Kauto can’t get up the hill and if Grand Crus does win the AON why not have a go?
His respsonse was that Long Run had never fallen but I never said he had, or had to, to get beaten. Anyone who saw the Paddy Power saw how he went to pieces when he hit a couple of fences at Cheltenham so he wouldn’t have to fall to get beaten.
Another point made was that Grand Crus himself is not the perfect leper and I must admit he does make me a bit nervous when he jumps, I can’t put my finger on why but he just keeps clearing them like they were hurdles and making me feel silly for worrying.
I’m usually not for running Novices outside novice company but Denman has gone. There is huge doubt about Kauto being able to handle the hill nowadays. Even in the King George you could see he was coming to the end of his tether half way up the run in.
Long Run may be the only horse he’d have to beat and you don’t get many chances to win Gold Cups.
The fact he ran so well at the course in his trial and against Big Bucks swings me. So I would go against the grain and I’d run him if he were mines.
January 20, 2012 at 12:50 #387491Yup, completely agree with every word Fist’s just said.
January 20, 2012 at 13:51 #387501In the RP the other day David Pipe says it depends on the opposition, ie sounds like a precaution in case LR or Kauto don’t turn up. Shortly after this came out GC’s odds for the RSA shortened a bit on Betfair.
I think GC is more likely to go for the RSA as he is more likely to win it and he can progress to the King George and GC next year. However, I think it’s now a very good idea to bet on GC for the GC on a NRNB basis at 7-1 as it now looks like he will only run if there is a significant dropout, so he would go off at maybe 4-1. (This assumes no rule 4 on NRNB – the good news here is that according to the Betfair forum last time I looked Ladbroke had dropped their rule 4 threat).
And another thing, Nick Mordin says Kauto ran faster than GC at Kempton on 26 Dec from first fence to the end. So GC’s better time overall not so compelling.
January 20, 2012 at 15:46 #387513Hope they stick to RSA this year. Don’t agree about these Kauto Star hill theories, not that I subscribe to any ‘up the hill theories’ at Cheltenham. Kauto clearly wasn’t 100% last year for whatever reason and I personally wrote him off. Looks as good as ever at the moment and I wouldn’t want to say he can’t ‘get up the hill’ or whatever, click replay, 2009 gold cup. Sure Grand Crus has a lot of ability and would deserve a place in the line up on that fact alone. I’d like to see him tackle the RSA and come back the year after personally.
January 20, 2012 at 18:11 #387530Gaffer, Night Nurse, Gloria Victis, Carvill’s Hill, Beef or Salmon; all outstanding novices who found the Gold Cup a step too far, in some cases with disastrous results.
Capatin Christy and Dawn Run were the exception, but they were phenomenal. Grand Crus’ connections should learn from history.January 20, 2012 at 20:42 #387556I personally think Grand Crus should go for the Gold Cup. Long Run has been very disappointing this season, and i really think Grand Crus has the quality to get to the principals in the market.
I think he is a high quality horse and would get them at it.

I wasn’t in any way aiming that comment at you GetzippyLol, trust me, Coggy, I need MORE treatment not less!!!
FWIW, I think Grand Crus is worth his chance in the Gold Cup – it’s so open and has little depth. I don’t see him finding the pace or jumping a problem, and surely the distance will be fine as long as it’s not a quagmire.
Yep, Kapsarov, I concur 7/1 NRNB is prob the one to take now.

January 21, 2012 at 11:43 #387632hope they do go for it. why not? whats been so special this year that grands crus doesn’t have the potential of beating? a kauto star supposedly coming back to form?
would be good for the sport.
