Field https://www.equibase.com/static/entry/PW051025USA5-EQB.html Willie Mullins actually nominated Appreciate It and Daddy Long Legs to this race but chose not to bring them over.
Today at 4:40pm EDT/9:40pm GMT, big race featuring the champion Snap Decision. The 11yo comes in off a narrow win in the Temple Gwathmey where he gave 18lbs to the second-place finisher and was on the wrong lead most of the race. At level weights and good or firm ground he’ll have a great shot here. Vae Patron who gave him a battle in this race last year returns with Danny Mullins aboard (Mullins has a bunch of mounts on the card, smart man comes here for all the big purse days).
If Snap wins he will become the highest-earning American jumps horse in history and also the only horse to win the Iroquois 4 times.
The full card at Percy Warner will be livestreamed at https://nationalsteeplechase.com/live-streaming/. There is parimutuel betting on this race, not sure if UK bookies will have odds on it this year though.
May 10, 2025 at 21:37 #1730065Don’t think we can bet on this which is annoying.
Course looks superb as usual.
Somebody got a belter of a fall in the last race, hope they were OK.
Plenty of familiar names in the big race, love Zarak the Brave but don’t think he would have been sold here unless he was crocked. Got a soft spot for Jimmy P but hope Snap Decision does it for you. Nice to see him get the recognition of a presentation before the race.
Danny Mullins’ mount Vae Patron is interesting, it’ll be different for him than running against the likes of Theleme anyway.May 10, 2025 at 21:55 #1730067Snap Decision really is a gorgeous looking horse.
May 10, 2025 at 22:13 #1730068Abaan defeats Snap Decision in a thriller today. Snap had beaten him by a nose three weeks ago but he used all 3 miles today. Looks like there was a slippery spot in the last turn that caught a bunch of horses, hence steward’s inquiry, but didn’t appear to affect the front-most horses.Hopeful all are okay.
By the way, the Iroquois has an agreement with Cheltenham that the winner of this race gets an invitation to next year’s Stayer’s Hurdle with paid travel expenses. There was no chance of the firm-turf-loving Snap Decision going over but with Abaan if he can maintain his form there’s a possibility…
