Just wondered if some of the point-to-point experts on the forum could give me an idea of the merits of the above’s form?
Considering backing him at Fontwell today, and always find it tricky to translate pointing form to rules (and vice versa to an extent).
What is he rated by Mackenzie and Harris?
Many thanks in advance.

November 7, 2008 at 18:49 #188600I saw two of Iris’s Prince’s 10 consecutive point-to-point wins over the course of this last season, those recorded at Hackwood Park (one of the finishes of the season) and Lower Machen. Be assured that nothing of Fontwell will hold any terrors for him, even if any deterioration in the ground makes the run-in a bit of a test – he was eating up the uphill finishes at both the aforementioned tracks.
Have no fears where the jockey is concerned, either, as all of his 2008 pointing wins were gained under today’s rider, the very talented teenager Rhys Flint, before he turned conditional.
In short, I’d be disappointed if he doesn’t at least go close.

November 7, 2008 at 19:20 #188608Couldn’t tell you anything about the strength of his pointing form, other than to conclude that it suggests he’s hardly regressed in that sphere. His form in handicap chases though in 2006/7 suggests he’s still on a more than fair mark when you consider he was runner-up off 97 then and can run off 96 today.

Can’t seem to back a winner at present. I’m off to peruse the "losing runs" thread!
November 7, 2008 at 20:21 #188616Young Rhys touched off by a head and neck in successive races, the latter on Iris’s Prince.
Ye verily worthy of a cry of Arsington Sodmonster.
I’m sure horse and rider will come good again sooner rather than later.

November 7, 2008 at 20:22 #188617No doubt, probably on the day I don’t back them….
November 7, 2008 at 20:42 #188620As an aside, Nagam benefitted from an excellent ride. Johnny Farrelly had to start niggling before the third fence and didn’t just keep after the horse but got him jumping and moving forward at the right times throughout the race before angling him wide at the last to get an unchecked run at the leaders. He didn’t jump up and down wildly, or simply resort to a few hefty belts with the stick but kept pushing, coercing and cajoling the lazy looking Nagam along. One of the better rides you will see all season imo.
November 7, 2008 at 21:16 #188629Johnny Farrelly created a good impression as soon as he came over here from Ireland, didn’t he – I seem to remember one or two of us extolling his virtues on these pages two years ago when he was Jonjo’s 10lb (but not for long) claiming conditional.
Trainer-wise, it is of course a second winner of the week for Alan Fleming (see the "1.20 Huntingdon" thread as well), too.

November 8, 2008 at 05:07 #188709A good start for Mr Fleming, but bear in mind which booots he’s filling….
