If I’m honest it’s not the most inspiring Irish Oaks I’ve seen, and there isn’t, imo, any
standout candidate. It wouldn’t surprise me if they were all in a heep at the finish, and I
don’t think that Yaxeni should proably be 66/1 with WH. I’d rather have an E/W with her, there’s
not too much between her and Snow in their races, she was 5/1 whilst Snow was 8/1 and in their
last she was 3/1 whereas Snow was 11/4. She also beat Passion the best part of 6 lengths, albeit
that was their 2 year old days, so all in all I’d rather have her E/W at 66s than something else
which I didn’t have much confidence in.

Think that result was always on the cards and surprised Even So went off as big as 11/1 if you factored in that Cayenne Pepper didn’t stay the distance, Ennistymon and Passion had had a hard race in the Oaks the best piece of visible form had been the tussle between Laburnum and Even So in their last race.
Snow was in there with every chance but passed and beaten by better horses.
Yaxini and New York Girl not in the same class.
I enjoyed the race but Peaceful would have walked it.. Jac ;-)

What a year for Ger Lyons

Winning Irish classics for juddmonte and coolmoore is absolutely huge for his training career

Hopefully he starts getting sent more top horses and we can have more non Obrein trained runners in Irish group 1s

Colin Keane also continues to establish himself as the standout jockey in ireland

It pretty much went the way I’d imagined it, they were all in with a shout about
a furlong out and Even So picked up best. Two lengths back to the 2nd, the next
6 home covered by 5 lengths. Well done to the winner, but I’m not sure how much
to take from this. I agree with you Jac, Peaceful could probably have won with me
jocked up. Yaxani did as her last 2, and ran on just behind Snow. She must be getting
sick of the sight of Snow’s butt, that’s the last 3 she’s finished in behind her. It
will be interesting to hear the post mortems from the various camps.

No guarantee Peaceful wouldve won. She ran the same weekend as Ennystimon who ran flat and clearly hadn’t recovered from last time. Peaceful may have done something similar.

    They’re not machines.

I’m aware of that Mike, I wasn’t meaning a below par Peaceful would have won,
just one that showed the form she had would have won from a very uninspiring field
on Saturday. I would doubt there is any horse in today’s field that would trouble
Peaceful, if all were well and nobody fell out the stalls.

Ger Lyons on Luck on Sunday
“I don’t take any notice of pedigrees, I let the horse tell me what they are”
“we were also going to start her 2 y/o campaign late because she is by Camelot”…

Mike I too think it would have been too soon for Peaceful bearing in mind Ennistymon and Passion had both run in the Oaks as I pointed out in the rundown I did before the race.
You are right horses are not machines and there are much better days ahead for herself, Love and Fancy Blue. Aiden did the right thing. :good:

The only thing the race confirmed is that love is an outstanding filly. I know the oaks second didn’t fire but passion was right there till the last half furlong. I’d love to see love in the king George against enable as an appetiser for the arc. Would have happened years ago but I think her main targets are the arc and the breeders cup.

It’s interesting you say that Graham, i wouldn’t be so sure. She finished in a line with Fancy Blue in France over 1m 2 1/2 while beating them well over a mile. 1M4 would be a different test altogether and Even So has probably more of a mile + 1/2 pedigree than Peaceful. For all Galileo can produce them to run over all trips.
