Jan Vermeer was well in touch at the 2f poll and had every chance to go and win his race and he just wasn’t good enough. Perhaps with cut in the ground he could have the beating of Cape Blanco. He may need further IMO.

June 27, 2010 at 20:46 #303487I’ve been talking about Cape Blanco for 2 months, and couldn’t lump today out of disgust of the horse not running at Epsom! Had a bit on today, but couldn’t lump after starting a fund for Cape Blanco for the Epsom Derby since March, and gutted he did not rang. Well done Ballydoyle.
June 27, 2010 at 22:30 #303514what are some people on here like.fact of the matter is cape blanco has been beaten once.how anyone can say he isnt a match for workforce knows nothing about racing.whos to say he wouldnt have won in epsom, the ante post king?get real and wait for the race.o brien put up the king george straight after the race.thats what competition is about.not ducking a race like stoute did with his horse.theres a list of socalled "brilliant"english derby winners that never done anything again,ie,north light and kris kin.both trained by stoute and with profiles like workforce
June 27, 2010 at 22:33 #303515Cape Blanco certainly will give him a race…its not going to be a walkover for Workforce as many people think.
Wallace Cape Blanco will never beat Workforce again over any trip! The only danger to Workforces King George victory is his stable companion Harbinger,he is a beast too,but i always think the 3yo weight allowance in the King George is generous!
how is harbinger a beast?hes won a few gr3s and a gr2.if thats the case then delegator is a beast too
June 28, 2010 at 05:13 #303541Cape Blanco’s class got him through today even though he doesn’t naturally stay the trip I feel and staying at 1m4f would be a mistake as he is more of a International horse than the King George, I think Cape Blanco would win the International if he went to York, Workforce would beat Cape Blanco over 12f.
June 28, 2010 at 06:48 #303548The time of the race would suggest he did stay.

June 28, 2010 at 07:21 #303551A three year old will not win The 2010 King George, this years crop aren’t that special, Harbinger or Profound Beauty, who didn’t put down on the dry ground on Saturday, will do for me.
June 28, 2010 at 09:06 #303567imo cape blanco gallops all day and 1m4f is his optimum trip, whereas i can’t see the extra 2 furlongs doing anything for jan vermeer!!
June 28, 2010 at 16:19 #303615If you look closely at the finish of the Irish derby on At The Races you will see that Jamie Heffernan made a wrong decision (he decided that he would not get through on the rail, and tried to head inside). He had to change his mind and go back to the rail again. But it was too late. This cost him his momentum. Check it out.At the time Jan Vermeer was going like a train up the inside.
June 28, 2010 at 17:56 #303630I saw it, it made no difference to the outcome of the race, Jan Vermeer had enough time after that switch and go and win the race, he wasn’t good enough IMO.
June 28, 2010 at 17:58 #303632In my opinion he did not have time to renew his original challenge but as they say doctors differ and patients die.

Dont worry "dave dark" i"m as real as real is and i knew a long time before you did that
Workforce
was a real Derby horse,i hope we see a re-match and you are still here to have a little wager with me!

Agree with JohnJ here, Jan Vermeer wasn’t good enough on the day and the switch made little difference. I’m confused as to why they are forcing the pace with Jan Vermeer; that’s how he won his Gp1 last year.
Cape Blanco was a worthy and deserving winner – I know everyone is saying the time was quick but do we know if it was quick in relation to other races run over the two days. Would be interested to know.
Coolmore will send him to the King George I would think. They wouldn’t miss an opportunity to have a go at the Derby winner.
June 28, 2010 at 22:01 #303685It would be great if Ballydoyle let Cape Blanco have a go at Workforce, I am sure it would be a great race. Just watching a repeat of the documentary on Vincent O’Brien on RTE1, it was shown at Christmas.
Vincent O’Brien was a genius, so ahead of his time, he achieved so much in his career, amazing man.

And, as Marble reminded us recently, the great MVOB once said:
"If you think you’ve got four derby possibles you’ve got none at all"
,
so how anyone can think three stablemates finishing close together signifies the kind of class to win a King George – particularly against a horse that’s already thrashed 2 of them out of sight – baffles me completely.

Times were faster generally on Sunday, and the Irish Derby was the quickest run race (relatively) of the whole meeting. Having said that, the 12f h/c that followed it was only 1.25 secs slower. Though the winner of that race (Bay Willow – carried 8st 4lbs) is clearly better than his 87 rating, that only puts him about 20lb behind Cape Blanco, which suggests the big race wasn’t all that much of test anyway. Certainly visually, there was no great pace on early. - AuthorPosts
