Knight To Behold 20/1 e/w.
Beat Kew Gardens well at Lingfield on GF ground and then didn’t look to enjoy Epsom in terms of track, pace and the softer ground.
Back on quick ground and with Frankie up hopefully not getting stuck onto the pace at the front I can’t have him as a 20s shout. Kew Gardens showed at Ascot last week he’s a nice horse and franked the Lingfield form.
June 29, 2018 at 17:44 #1358876Frankie D says Dee ex Bee should be favourite over Saxon Warrior. I don’t agree with that but the two should be a lot closer than they are in the market. I got a few quid matched @ 9/1 for the Johnston horse. Will be following up tomorrow, although am concerned with the ground firming up. Good-firm is ok(ish) but with this weather is it going to be proper “firm” by tomorrow? If so then not only is it a question mark on ability to act. Also means his stamina isn’t as much of an asset – something also in Saxon Warrior’s favour. However, the odds-on favourite is if anything even more uncertain to act on very firm – given his awkward action. I’ll definitely be looking to oppose the fav.
Value Is EverythingJune 29, 2018 at 22:44 #1358908Had there been some opportunities elsewhere I would probably have swerved this race but yet again it’s a weekend racing equivalent of Springsteen’s ’57 Channels’.
Those siding with the favourite must strongly believe he didn’t handle the track and/or Moore gave him a duff ride at Epsom. To me he was pretty hopeless. Anyway, he didn’t shout obvious stayer and the Curragh will provide a stiffer test, at least in the stamina department.
Who’s going to beat him? If he doesn’t stay it could well be plural rather than singular.
Dee Ex Bee is the obvious one. It looks a question of whether he can repeat the Epsom run or not. He wouldn’t be the first Johnston runner to back up a good performance with a dire one. Then you have De Sousa in a Group 1. Like it or not he doesn’t dine very often at the top table. He will know only too well this is a rare opportunity to win a Classic.
Initially, I was looking at four places for one of the others, but given that both market leaders could disappoint I felt the better option was to take full odds and three places. For me the standout amongst the others is Platinum Warrior. After his seasonal debut I thought this will be a nice handicap plot (it was that type of ride) but he showed massive improvement in the Derrinstown and again in the Gallinule. He travelled like the best horse in the Gallinule and was value for more than the winning margin. His pedigree suggests he will improve again for the step up in trip and I don’t understand why Latrobe is generally a shorter price. He has also had a nice break since that last win.
So two bets, the main one being Platinum Warrior each-way at 25/1 or better (if he drifts) and a saver on Dee Ex Bee at 9/2. I wouldn’t be inclined to back him each-way.
June 29, 2018 at 23:18 #1358909Gone for OLD PERSIAN- 14/1
Each WayWhen Saxon sees the Godolphin blue out of the corner of his eye he’ll think it’s Masar and concede the race.

Old Persian has been running his best ever this season and expecting him to be thereabouts. Worth a small each Way bet at 14’s.
Good luck
Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...June 30, 2018 at 12:08 #1359002LATROBE 20/1
There been shock results so far in 3yo races with 1000 guineas and could see another one today with this horse has lot to find but fave may not stay could be tough for those who ran at Ascot to
June 30, 2018 at 12:45 #1359019Ended up taking the four places on Betfair at 20/1. I think that is good value given I see him as a 14/1 shot to three places. He looks weak at the moment but post time that could be different and I would be surprised if the actual return is bigger than 20/1.
The race could get messy for Dee Ex Bee if the intention is to set the race up for Saxon Warrior. Their ideal scenario would be the favourite running down weakening rivals.
June 30, 2018 at 12:54 #1359021I agree with Stilvi and Darren.
Topped up on Dee Ex Bee 9/2, Platinum Warrior 33/1 and Latrobe 22/1.Although I’ve done them all each way.
Value Is EverythingJune 30, 2018 at 13:02 #1359025Agree the favourite is poor value here. I’m taking him on with Knight to Behold, he’s one with form on lively ground and looks a big price to me at 22/1.
June 30, 2018 at 13:02 #1359026This might turn out to be a 2 horse race between Saxon Warrior and Dee Ex Bee, but I think
that at the odds I’m with jac on Old Persian at 14/1. I think he
looked better when stepped up to 12f last time out at Ascot so there are no worries over the trip.
It could come soon enough, and that’s the worry, but if he hasn’t left too much behind on the race
course last time, and he did look strong at the finish, then I think he’s worth taking the chance
at the odds.June 30, 2018 at 13:41 #1359035Odds-on Saxon Warrior is crazy when you can get odds-against a place Dee Ex Bee.
Value Is EverythingJune 30, 2018 at 14:58 #1359048On DXB at 9/2 and LATROBE at 22/1 both each way!!
Good Luck Guys
June 30, 2018 at 15:03 #1359049So i’ve gone with my heart ROSTROPOVICH 40/1 each way.
All comers, all ground, all beaten
June 30, 2018 at 16:48 #1359053I would love to see Saxon Warrior hack up here and prove himself a superstar but i agree that he’s poor value at the prices. So I,ve backed a couple e/w. Knight To Behold 20/1 and Rostropovich 40/1.
June 30, 2018 at 17:04 #1359057I took Saxon Warrior at 6/4 for this put up on the Derby thread
Think he had excuses for Epsom.
Would like to see The Pentagon run better and had a couple of quid on him on the exchange at 34Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
