Another high profile race that looks likely to have too many question marks about it until the race itself.
How many will AOB run? Will George take on Dylan? Will Finsceal Beo run, will she get the trip?
To be honest, I can see it being a 6 or 7 runner race, with 4 of the runners being AOB’s and Dylan being a hot fav. I just can’t get excited about it all.

September 4, 2007 at 07:39 #113505Why is Dylan Thomas odds against in some places??? Looks very solid indeed and to my mind he should be 1-2 or possibly even shorter. The ground is going to be fast ~ Duke or Marmalade and Maraahel have little chance of beating him on the book and Finsceal Beo is a doubtful stayer who is unlikely to be anywhere near good enough even if she does stay (Cashmans effort of 5-2 Finsceal Beo raised a chuckle – has there ever been a less generous ante post quote? ). If an A1 Red Rocks turned up he could pose some kind of threat, but looking at the POW Wales form, you wouldn’t be in a rush to back him to beat Dylan Thomas.
September 4, 2007 at 08:12 #113509Dylan Thomas is vulnerable at this trip. Ouija Board should have beaten him in the race last year. He’ll get his ground but I’d fancy Red Rocks to have his measure if – and it’s a big if – he comes to the race at the top of his game. Ever since last year’s Voltigeur I’ve thought Red Rocks would be best at 10f. I was totally nonplussed by his Breeders’ Cup victory but his stylish Sandown win first time out under a penalty did nothing to disabuse me and I’ve no doubt he ran below form at Ascot. Dettori complained about the lack of pace there and that might have been a (small) factor but he wouldn’t have won anyway. Whoever rides him on Saturday would do well to remember that Red Rocks has shown himself quite amenable to front-running several times in the past.
Finsceal Beo looks an unlikely stayer.
September 4, 2007 at 08:35 #113510Red Rocks has one person to thank for his BC Turf win : Dettori. Frankie had the awareness that day to keep his mount off the hot pace which cooked most of his opponents.
As for the Irish Champion, Cashman’s 11/10 about DT is my idea of a maximum bet because I cannot see a danger.
Finsceal Beo has trip issues. Also, it is anyone’s guess if she is , after a tough early campaign, as good as she was Guineas day ; is her best good enough, anyway ?
As for the rest , they just aren’t good enough, imho.
DT all the way for me.
