So You Think will probaly win but i think RECITAL will run a big race at 16/1
August 29, 2011 at 18:39 #369485Agreed. 20/1 Recital is tempting!
August 30, 2011 at 05:30 #369509This has to be the worst Irish Champion I can remember. So You Think should win this with ease.
August 30, 2011 at 13:35 #369532Why so few runners? Horsemans Group?

Not at all, JJM.
With a total prize fund of 750,000 euro’s, it remains one of the richest middle distance prizes in Europe.August 30, 2011 at 17:26 #369547My thinking goes like this:
Roddy O always looked like a horse who should win a race over further than a mile.
Roddy O is bred to win a race over further than a mile.
Roddy O still hasn’t won over further than a mile.
Roddy O hasn’t really come close to winning over further than a mile.
It’s about bloody time Roddy O did better over further than a mile.
Roddy O is a three year old.
Roddy O is trained by Aidan O’Brien.
Three year old’s do well in this race.
Aidan O’Brien does well in this race.
Roddy O isn’t Recital.
Roddy O is 16/1.
16/1 is a good e/w price if you like e/w betting.
Roddy O surely can’t keep being atrocious at races over further than a mile.
16/1 is a good price about Roddy O.
Oh, sod it, I’m on Roddy O e/w.
The End
NB I may be hideously wrong on this one.

So don't run, just like the others always do
August 30, 2011 at 19:31 #369551The Irish Champion has had small fields for the last few years, but this year it probably reflects the current lack of UK and Irish G1 standard 10f horses (outside the O’Brien stable).
As to this year’s race I think e/w value will be the horse Joseph O’Brien rides. I suspect it will be ROC but his ability to settle horses may be the key to Recital. The other if’s here are, will Recital actually run, what tactics will they use and is he in just in case the rain is forecast to arrive on Sat afternoon.
September 1, 2011 at 05:05 #369605I heard that Heffernan will be riding SYT in the Irish Champion Stakes. Is this so or not?No word from the tweeter of Ballydoyle this week yet? And where is Rubyisgodinthesaddle?
September 1, 2011 at 08:42 #369614It was on the SportingLife site on Tuesday that Seamie would ride So You Think.
September 1, 2011 at 12:30 #369624Thanks.I have been out of town since Sunday.
September 3, 2011 at 11:23 #369770I’ve done Snow Fairy 7/1 and Famous Name 20/1 both each way.
So we’ve almost covered the whole field between us for each way value.
Value Is EverythingSeptember 3, 2011 at 11:55 #369774Had a small win bet on Recital @ 16/1.
He’ll probably run a lovely race in 3rd and Aidan will be delighted.
September 3, 2011 at 17:19 #369810Excellent piece on the history of the ICS on RTÉ after the Matron there.
September 3, 2011 at 22:07 #369837Putting the win over Workforce with todays win over Snow Fairy So You Think makes believers out of us all.Against Workforce he came from behind, today he won from the front.Brilliant.
September 3, 2011 at 23:06 #369843SYT is a winner and oozes professionalism.
Surely no one can now doubt he can win the Arc?

He has never won past 10f (ok 10.5f if you want to be pedantic). I wouldn’t bank on him in the Arc, that extra 2f over possible soft or heavy ground…. not convinced he has the stamina for it. He definitely seemed suspect coming up the hill at Ascot.
September 4, 2011 at 04:28 #369853How about coming up the hill at Leopardstown? Didn’t seem suspect to me.The extra two furlongs will reduce the challenge to horses with less speed and more stamina.Should suit him perfectly. But does Heffo have the ability to win an Ark? How I would like to have Murtagh or Fallon riding him in the big ones from now on.
