What a cracking race this is. I must admit I have never been a great Faugheen fan and today we will see if he is a true champion. I just think Nichols Canyon is under rated and at 4/1 is an each way bet to nothing.
I’ve done the forecast of faugheen and arctic fire. Three best 2 mile hurdlers in the world fighting it out today. Just think Nichols canyon caught faugheen when everything went perfect for NC. I know he fought it out well against identity thief but I don’t believe a repeat of that would be good enough to beat arctic fire into second.
I love Faugheen (just wish we’d seen him over fences), but price far too short. N Canyon is a serious horse, + any other yr would nearly be Champion Hurdle fav. So worried++
He’s on a different planet. Bar a fall, everything else in the
Champion Hurdle is running for 2nd place. He’s as short as 1/3,
and you can’t argue with that.
Laughed at one of the Irish commentators saying beforehand that the ground would not be in his favour and there wasn’t much between him and NC even though the official ratings were saying that there was 14lbs difference.
I would just say that maybe the hard race NC had at Christmas may have taken more out of him as he stopped far too quickly for me to just say he has paid for going toe to toe with Faugheen.
Scary thing is that Ricci just said he is still carrying a little condition and will come on for the run…..WTF!
The best quote was when Ricci said that Mullins told him that the mistake at the last was because Faugheen caught sight of Ricci’s suit in the grandstand!
Wonderful display of relentless galloping + acceleration; can’t remember another hurdler as dominant, even Istabraq. Still has to display longevity, tho!
Personally, I didn’t give Nichols Canyon a chance but if they were serious about winning surely it wasn’t the most inspired piece of riding to allow the favourite both the rail and the lead?
Faugheen against hurricane fly at his peak would have been some race. Amazing performance today. It’s more like pick the group one races Mullins/ricci won’t win at Cheltenham.
