    I backed

    Love Bird

@ 16/1 earlier in the week. Was impressed with her performance in her maiden last month – showed good early speed that day and has proven she goes in the ground, jockey bookings suggest she’s Coolmore’s second string but Murtagh was never going to ride her with Again in the field so another positive and fingers crossed she can do the business :)

Think Chintz is very overpriced here and well worth an e/w @ 16-1.

Also will have a go on Bolgers Oh Goodness Me at 20-1, as was too far back and never really got into the race in france and looks worthy of a second chance.

Strange race, with many more negatives than positives.
Again looks like a horse who needs further already, got behind early on in the Boussac, and never looked capable of making up the lost ground. Considering the way most from this stable improve for a run, her placing has all the hallmarks of a warm-up.
Jim Bolger was adamant that Cuis Ghaire didn’t act on the heavy ground at Leopardstown, and hard to believe that she has morphed into a soft ground horse since.
Lahaleeb ran 9 times as a 2yo, which is hardly the prep you’d expect for a potential classic winner, and was thrashed by Chintz anyway. The latter is intriguing, as her trainer stated she needed soft ground and one mile plus last season, yet ran her in a fast ground 7f race on her re-introduction, which speaks volumes for how little she was trying, though she’s probably not good enough, and Love Bird has just one group entry, which suggests speculation rather than intent.
Even the form horse, Super Sleuth, has reservations, as her stable has lately had more disappointments than winners, but she’s convinced Frankie enough to come over solely for the ride, and she ran a super race in the Guineas on ground that was against her, and does look bound to improve for the stiffer stamina test this race represents, so has an excellent chance, if only by default.

With the ground at the Curragh down as heavy i’ve taken a massive U-turn and wont be backing Cuis Ghaire tomorrow.

Instead I really like the look of

    Love Bird

who looks to handle the heavy ground quite well and is still very unexposed.

Love Bird won what looked to be a pretty hot maiden a few weeks back under a smooth ride by Lordan. Tomorrow she has Seamie on board and looks to be the obvious 2nd string for the Wachman team.

She is unexposed enough to improve quite a bit from that win over a heavy 7f at the Curragh and I think having Seamie on board is a massive, massive plus. At 12/1 shes a very decent price too.

Again will handle the heavy conditions well and has beaten Cuis Ghaire on heavy before. Cuis Ghaire might not have been firing that day but it’s still enough to turn me off backing her.

Of the English team, I can see Lahaleeb franking the form with Super Sleuth. Super Sleuth is one of the best maidens around but I feel she’ll still be a maiden come 3:50 today.

Lets throw in a speculative tricast here and say that itll end up….

    1. Love Bird
    2. Again
    3. Lahaleeb

I’d agree that it’s not a race to get too involved with – few of these are likely to make up in to anything spectacular – but I quite like the look of

    Luminous Eyes

    at 16/1.

I seem to remember her absolutely spanking Drumbeat on her second start last season and she went on to put in a similarly impressive display went beating Chintz at Leopardstown. Her defeat at the Curragh was surprising, but her absence following that run would suggest that she may have had some problems.

She’ll handle the ground, she should stay and I don’t believe for one second that Dermot Weld would send her here unprepared.

Love Bird has just one group entry, which suggests speculation rather than intent.

I was thinking at first that the entries aren’t out yet for the Falmouth, so that there is nothing for Love Bird to have been entered in, but I’ve just checked the list of Big Race entries, and these are the races that a well-regarded Maiden-winning filly entered in the Irish 1000 Guineas would also be expected to be entered in:

    Ballycorus, G3, 7f
    Coronation Stakes, G1, 1m
    Pretty Polly, G1, 1m2f

Although I appreciate maiden winners are not the percentage call in Classics had a little on Love Bird but a bit mystified as to why VC have just kicked her out from 9/1 to 14/1?

Luminous Eyes ew for me. None of the favs appeal enough to have a serious bet here. If I was laying a horse it would be "Again" with so many unknown factors in the race

Quite phenomenal late money for Super Sleuth, going from 7s to 7/2 in the space of about 10 minutes. Lahaleeb also into 6s from 8s. Cuis drifted slightly from 7s to 8s.

That ground really took it out of a lot of them. More so that I expected!

Thought Lahaleeb mightve got there and Again just gets up in the last few strides. Johnny rode that very, very well to get it up right on the line.

1st and 2nd home were 2nd and 3rd in my prediction so not so bad.

If Again goes to the Oaks you’d have to fancy her on softer ground. I’m still not sure she’ll turn up though if I’m honest, She may be the one for the Irish Oaks

Thank gawd I don’t lay em  . You could be right HWTH not just the ground but you have to worry the undulations and gradients of Epsom might not suit her.

Absolutely gutted. Lahaleeb was just in front for slightly too long. Hats off to the training performance of Wachman though and a truly great ride from Murtagh.
