Lady Kaya – said to go 6F
Skitter skatter – misses race
Zagitova – not in training
Fairyland ?
Fleeting – OaksMay 19, 2019 at 19:44 #1439767That looks nice botchy
May 19, 2019 at 20:37 #1439769If the ground doesn’t place too much emphasis on stamina I’d expect Lady Kaya to run here – no matter what connections say about coming back in trip. Fact is she stayed the Newmarket mile well enough to beat all bar one home… And with Calyx, Ten Sovereigns etc going for the Commanwealth – this race looks far easier to win. Trouble is, although Hermosa made the running at Newmarket suspect Coolmore will run a spoiler; in order to persuade their main rival (front/prominent runner Lady Kaya) to go too fast too soon.
Value Is EverythingMay 19, 2019 at 20:49 #1439770I backed Hermosa at Newmarket, but – so far – she looks very short here @ 13/8. Possibly more about doubts with other horses running than anything else. They finished in a bit of a heep. Can’t all be good and the form is probably substandard for a Guineas. Speed is another question. Generally as horses get older they need further for their stamina to come in to play. Hermosa was effective at a mile early on as a 3 year old but is bound to find the trip too short at some stage of the season, just a matter of when. But as for what’s going to beat her?
There’s a few I like (including East) but is early days yet.Value Is EverythingMay 19, 2019 at 23:13 #1439788East looks a cracking each way bet at that price with three places
May 20, 2019 at 11:20 #1439812Love Hermosa, but I too think East may well be the one here.
May 20, 2019 at 14:24 #1439823East 10/1
I was all over East in the French guineas, i’ve got to go in again over a stiffer mile on some nicer ground which should suit.
May 20, 2019 at 22:52 #1439863I noticed too late that Qabala isn’t even declared, only a small bet but should they be allowed to make books like this quoting horses not in training, sometimes colts in fillies races and it has been known horses that are no longer with us
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 21, 2019 at 00:44 #1439871Any bet needs to have the possibility of success to be a bet, Jac. Any colt can not win a fillies classic so the bet is void – money back. No horse can come back from the dead, so money back. If a horse is out of training presumably there is a chance of coming back in to training – possibility of winning.
Can Qabala still be supplemented, Jac?
If so they’re entitled to quote her, but should say “needs to be supplemented”; if no chance of being supplemented there is no chance of winning – bet void and money back.Value Is EverythingMay 21, 2019 at 01:04 #1439872According to Racing TV Roger Varian said:
“Qabala has come out of the Guineas in great form,” he said. “We would not rule out looking at the Irish Guineas but she needs supplementing, which makes it a bit more complicated. I’m not sure I’d want to supplement her if it looked like it might rain every day at the Curragh.
“Come Monday morning we’d have to take a view. If the weather is set fair and we were happy with her condition, then I’d have to discuss it with the owners as to whether they would supplement her.
“That’s one option, the other is locking away her away and waiting for the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, which was probably my first thought following the English Guineas. Regardless of what we do, we are delighted with the way she’s come out of her race at Newmarket and hopefully her best days are still ahead.”
Value Is EverythingMay 21, 2019 at 09:08 #1439878Thanks Ginger
Just looked at the five day forecast for the Curragh and seems to be mainly dry with scattered showers on a couple of days, the main rain coming after Sunday and forecast for the rest of the week Monday 27th onwards.Hope that Roger Varian will decide to supplement Qabala for the race although no news yet. She surely now has the chance to prove herself here against Hermosa to confirm that she was very unlucky not to get a clear run at a vital point at Newmarket. Otherwise she’ll have to wait another month for Royal Ascot and who can say what the weather will be doing there.

Hope she runs as you know I think a lot of this little filly with a big heart

Qabala has an entry
Now she just has to go out and win.
Best price 11/4 at the moment.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 21, 2019 at 17:25 #1439926OMG
Backed two fillies for the Oaks who were sure to improve at the longer trip. First Hermosa comes here instead. Now Iridessa! LOL. Can sort of understand Hermosa, Coolmore don’t yet have another good 3 year old filly over a mile and do have the potentially good Pink Dogwood for 1m4f… But Iridessa?
Connections do have Altair in the Oaks but surely that one isn’t good enough? Joseph O’Brien seems intent on ruinning this Group 1 filly.
Value Is EverythingMay 21, 2019 at 18:43 #1439933Michael Bell is in outstanding form. 6 winners from his last 9 runners! None at odds-on. Just one as low as 5/4, all others between 9/4 and 20/1. One of the three losers only lost by a short head.
Pretty Pollyanna has form up with the best of these. So at 14/1 sometimes it’s worth taking a chance even though I think a horse won’t stay.
Value Is EverythingMay 21, 2019 at 19:38 #1439935…Done East too @ 10/1.
Value Is EverythingMay 21, 2019 at 22:11 #1439944Main bets on Pretty Pollyanna 14/1 and East 10/1, but…
As can be seen from a previous post on this thread I was very keen to be against Hermosa when she was 13/8. But @ 5/2 is imo worth a saver along with Qabala @ 11/4 (a combined 5/6 saver). Just Wonderful who I believe is temperamental, Iridessa too slow and Fairyland a proven non-stayer – are all imo extremely short and therefore make the market here.Value Is EverythingMay 26, 2019 at 12:31 #1441676There seemed to be a big advantage being on or near the front end yesterday, I’m tempted to cover my bet on east with hermosa because of this
