Forecast is 5-7 degrees, so sure to go ahead & Cue Card to show everyone how good he is…
December 8, 2010 at 22:02 #331662Hope you’re right Perpetual… Der Spieler is now on the ferry… I know he’s an outsider, but if you aren’t in, you can’t win…
December 8, 2010 at 22:11 #331664Best of luck, Dallimann; I’ve missed some good prices on your horse so may lumber him with a small bet this time [sorry].
December 8, 2010 at 22:57 #331669I quite fancy Cue Card to win the Champion Hurdle, but at this point, I wonder if his hurdling will be slick enough to cope with Silviniaco Conti. I don’t think SC will lack for speed, although he stays further.
You have to make up your mind if all the horses in a small high class field will be aimed to the same degree at it, and it’s on that ground that I’m overlooking Menorah. Still horses make a mugs of us all the time, and maybe he’ll be one of those horse like – if I remember correctly – Night Nurse was: winning grade race after grade race, usually Grade I. He/she didn’t seem to be aimed for a particular time of the year.

Valid point Grimes but this Champion Hurdle looks exceptional and will be if all the principals get there in one piece.
Philip Hobbs said he is hopeful Menorah is a Champion Hurdle horse as I’m sure Colin Tizzard (Cue Card) and PN(Sanctuaire)are about theirs but with Binocular Hurricane Fly and Peddlars Cross involved hopeful at this stage is as good as it gets.
With the CH 3 months away I think all three will be trained to the minute for this, to grab a decent prize while they can.
Plenty time then for the winner to be let down and aimed at the Champion Hurdle.

With 85k to the winner, this is one of the richest hurdle prizes of the season, and I just can’t see any of the principals not being up for it. At around evens (best prices) for the first 3 in the betting, a dutch might just be one of the safest bets of the year. All 3 have questions to answer, but it would be a major shock if all were found wanting.
Menorah’s problem is the pace; though he can make his own, it’s a fine line between conserving energy and taking the sting out of the finishers, and RJ probably got it wrong twice last season, once in a steadily run race at Ascot, and again when not serving it up soon enough around a sharp Aintree. He’s there to be shot at, imo.
Cue Card could be anything, and Silviniaco Conti has yet to be properly tested at this distance, so it wouldn’t surprise if both sets of connections were guessing almost as much as we are, and, as none of the 3 look standout prices, even money any of them looks much the safest bet.December 9, 2010 at 10:40 #331708and, as none of the 3 look standout prices, even money any of them looks much the safest bet.
Even money one of the 3 (Cue Card, Menorah. Silviniaco conti) would be the bet of the century! how do you work that out reet?
2/1 2/1 3/1 is the best prices i can see!December 9, 2010 at 11:06 #331715

That looks like one of my posts to Ginge on a bad day.
Can never trust those calculators.
If you invest 6,875 pounds you are guaranteed a profit of 625 pounds which is about 1/12, if of course one of them wins.
Reet would like to change his post to:
After a lot of thought I reckon the safest bet would be to back the winner
. Usually works

Happy days are here again
December 9, 2010 at 13:23 #331738Cue Card over 3 lengths.

Oops – senior moment!
I started off by looking at the overound (about 2% at the time)and everything went downhill from then onwards.
Deffo, a no bet race.December 10, 2010 at 01:27 #331855fist and reet hard.. gee whizz. I feel I’ve gone a few rounds with the Packman already (that would be the day..!), before I’ve said a word.
Anyhooo, what you both say makes sense: they’ll all be trying. At least the principals.
As you say, fist, the prospect for the CH looks to be outSTANDING!
December 10, 2010 at 12:41 #331913This is a fascinating contest. It is easy to make a case for the top three in the betting. Therefore, it’s a case of which horse will be best suited by the tactics employed on the day. The ground should not inconvenience any of them.
I like Menorah very much but I feel he may not get the pace he requires to be seen at his best. The Nicholls horse would prefer further, I think – so the speed horse is the one to be on – Cue Card for me ! He oozes class.

Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
December 10, 2010 at 13:27 #331923If you can excuse Clerk’s Choice poor run at Haydock on sticky ground then he represents the value in the race at 12/1.
His form at Cheltenham compares favourably with Cue Card and Menorah with his winning time some 7 seconds faster than Cue Card (albeit carrying 9 pounds less)on the same ground and 13 seconds faster than Menorah (carrying 1 stone less than Menorah) good/soft
On official ratings he is within 2 or 3 pounds of anything else in the field.
December 10, 2010 at 13:45 #331925Very interesting, Sea Pigeon. Though none are from a betting perspective I suspect – though my indiscipline prompted me to put something on Silviniano.
December 10, 2010 at 20:45 #331978The horse I’m intrigued by is Evan Williams’ runner, Cristal Bonus. He’s the proverbial horse who could be anything, and, at 25s, he carries my £2.50 e/w.
Should be a cracker, regardless!

So don't run, just like the others always do
December 10, 2010 at 22:42 #331992Really looking forward to this race tomorrow, and seeing Silviniaco Conti winning.
Well, i hope he wins, otherwise this Silviniaco Conti bandwagon that i am the driver of, will look a little silly
