Much depends on Melon finally showing he is as good as they’ve always thought.
I’ve added John Constable on the basis that it could be foolish to assume that his improvement was solely down to good ground.
December 16, 2017 at 12:22 #1332322His improvement came after a wind-op. Do you think that’s a coincidence?
I agree with you on him, and I also think Ch’tibello is wrong at the prices if fit – he’s also had a wind op since last seen. I have dutched them, giving me just under 6/1 if either of them were to win.
December 16, 2017 at 13:23 #1332349As much as I don’t think Melon is going to win the Champion Hurdle, I do think he should be taking this. His form looks fairly solid and he handles any ground. For sure he has to give weight to My Tent but he doesn’t want it these days and The New One does seem to be a fair few pounds below his imperious best a few years ago; the handicapper thinks along the same lines it seems with Twiston-Davies’ star now rated 163 after reaching 167 in his pomp. I’d fancy Melon to handle the remaining opposition who all seem just below top class to me.
Melon 2/1
December 16, 2017 at 14:49 #1332389IF My Tent can replicate his Champion Hurdle form then I think he wins but he’s tends to be better in the Spring.
Still, I hope he can beat the ridiculously hyped Melon.
December 16, 2017 at 14:52 #1332390I hope Ch’tibello is far enough forward to do himself justice here, I think he will
be. I took the 10s earlier, and had an e/w on him last year for the Champion Hurdle,
but puss in a foot on the day put paid to that. If he were to have any chance in the
Champion Hurdle, he would have to do really well today. He’s 6 so there is a chance
he could be better this year than last, so rather that wait til after the race, I’ve
taken a (very) speculative 50/1. Don’t get me wrong, if Faugheen and Buveur Dair turn
up in fine fettle I think they will be the ones to battle it out, but March is a long
way off so I’ll take the chance at those odds.December 16, 2017 at 15:13 #1332395Heart-ache for The New One, but I think My Tent was probably given the best ride in the past 5 years as he’s evolved into a bit of a Harchibald type.
6 of them covered by a blanket at the finish does raise some questions though.
No excuses for Melon, but I’m sure Willie now knows where he stands against these types now.
I can’t help but feel this was the Alamo for The New One.

Knowing he’s a better Spring horse, still went with the reasoning that in my mind he’s the best one by Champion Hurdle form and boy did he show it today. What a classic this race was, thrilling!!!
December 16, 2017 at 15:16 #1332397Great finish, well done Barry, MTOY and anyone who backed him.
I like Melon but I don’t think he hurdles particularly well. He needs a hood, another year’s worth of muscle and a fence IMO.December 16, 2017 at 15:17 #1332398I’ve taken 8/1 Chtibello and 11/2 My Tent Or Yours.
It’s all about the price.
Value Is EverythingDecember 16, 2017 at 15:18 #1332399Was all over this today, different prep like i said for TNO worried me, great race
December 16, 2017 at 15:20 #1332400Tote paid £3.90
What a disgrace.
Does anyone still bet with the tote? If they did here, they won’t again.
December 16, 2017 at 15:22 #1332401Great race, very enjoyable. 6 pounds from the New One and Melon made the difference in the end. On reflection, I’d probably stick with hurdles for the rest of the season with melon but fences next year. The New One needs further, and the closeness of the also-rans in behind would make me doubt the form as a basis for any future races
December 16, 2017 at 15:25 #1332403Melon ran his best race yet and considering David Mullins had to take a pull several times after his hurdles, took a bit of a hold and nowhere to go around the turn… Had more to do than betting suggested and that was a good trial. Deseves to be third favourite for March.

Yes – great race and an emotional afternoon.
December 16, 2017 at 15:39 #1332414Well done Ham, Ginge Bayoffreedom and Mark, it’s nice to see him get his head in front.
Not quite sure what to make of Ch’tibello, he didn’t have a bad race. He looked a bit free
early on and perhaps had to wait til after the last with the front 3 directly in front of him.
But no excuses for him, he ran a decent race with 3 lengths between the 1st 4, and he did
have MTOY behind him on their 2 previous meetings.I’ll wait to hear what what Dan Skelton has to say, if he didn’t need the race I’d say his
chances of heading to the Champion Hurdle and dwindling at a rate of knots.December 16, 2017 at 16:43 #1332423Well done ginger, ham, et al. I should know better than to go against you experts

Threw the remote at the tv when i realised melon was just a bridle ponce, lol.
