April 9, 2006 at 16:01 #68181There’s an article ijn the Independent On Sunday about the c. 180 horses that die every year as a result of racecourse accidents.
The journalist, one Cole Morton, seems to be claiming a bit of an exclusive on this, although the figures seem to tally with fatality counts that racing forums keep anyway (even if the RP doesn’t).

It was interesting.
As I said on a different thread before the race, I had no arguments with Amberleigh running.
However, First Gold’s appearance should have earned JP a slap.
And what led connections to believe that Native Upmanship was suddenly going to find an extra 16 furlongs is a mystery.

April 11, 2006 at 14:12 #68185What led the starter to let them go when Native Upmanship was clearly behind the others and had his back to the tape is also a mystery.
Agree that none of them should have run though

I do hope Alan Lee is not suggesting any correlation above:biggrin:

"What exasperates Dettori is not the conservatism of the British racing authorities. He suspects that the most significant resistance instead comes from within the jockeys’ own ranks – from a vocal minority of specialist lightweight riders, who can have three square meals a day and still take any mount."
