Cheers VTC, Heading dangerously back towards the red and probably having a bet or two too many. I’ll do a quarterly review at the end of the month that will no doubt throw up a few areas to improve on.
June 29, 2017 at 13:28 #1306921The only observation I can make from my own experience, is that when you have these threads, there’s definitely the temptation to put up a bet, or indeed only put the bet on, because you have a thread. It’s a hard one I bet Alamein the other night, and was close to putting on a forecast just for the sake of it, because I have my Exacta thread. Glad I didn’t cause the other one got stuffed too lol
The good news is though that in the DLAP section you’re amongst like minded people, and there is no pressure, and there are no digs if you go through a rough patch.

Thanks for the input and encouragement VTC. I understand what you are saying in the part I have boldest above. I have tried to avoid it by only updating the thread when I definitely have a bet even if the last bet was a winner and I am itching to update the running total.
I think a bigger problem for me is when I have 3-4 in the tracker and I might really fancy two of them but can’t stop myself putting in one of the lesser fancied ones in case it fell in and I missed a big price winner.
Funnily enough a couple of times after doing this I have reined myself in the next day and missed a couple of winners so should probably just decide on a max number on any day(2) and stick to it.
July 1, 2017 at 09:48 #1307095Hi Circles, yeah the bit in bold is the key bit.
I enjoyed doing the my early DLAP threads, but I knocked them on the head, when I definitely started doing bets just because of the thread. Classic example was a Mullins runner at Sandown a few years back called Twigline. Was around the 6-4 mark, and I think I stuck around £20 on her. Certainty, and so it proved, until she tipped up at the last. I had only put the bet on because of the thread, and when I was more gutted about the thread not having a winner, than losing the £20, which was when I realised I had to do something about. I almost never bet at those odds, and yet there I was, betting £20 because of a thread on here.
I much prefer talking about my selections now, but I obviously still do the Exactas and Trifectas, as it gives me the chance to put my money where my mouth is as well, and because of the nature of the bets, I will rarely be in profit on the thread, so there’s no pressure.
No better feeling though than putting up a winner and that made me laugh, the “itching to update the total”, I can totally relate to that haha.
You’ve not been a stranger to winners since you started and I hope you can sort out the wheat from the chaff, on those days you have 3 or 4 contenders, and keep it going, as this part of the forum needs as many people doing it the traditional was as possible.
