My name is Lee Knowles, and I am the Racing manager of Mr Tony Thompson (I say racing manager, basically i take care of all his racing affairs in general), tony is not a well known owner as he spends 9/10ths of his Money on L.S.Lowry paintings and as of yet, they will not be for sale so for the time being he only has a few horses, his colours have been seen on most courses for the past 15 years or so, the biggest win being with "Salford Express" Who won the Dante back in 1999, and "Salford Mill" who had his name changed to "Helene mascot" winning the Hong kong derby.. Both ran in the derby, the mill being closest coming 6th behind Authorized…
I was briefly part of the GG.com forum – Which is terrible!
My family have been in racing, my uncle was apprentice to sir michael stoute and ben hanbury before moving over to germany to ride for the champion trainer, before finally breaking his leg in 5 different places and retiring to work for michael bell, my grandad was only an apprentice however he rode with the likes of Lester piggott and rode a horse im sure will be in the memory of the older generation "Le Garcon dor" (who has a novice chase named after him)
Growing up with family directly influenced by the top racing names, im lucky enough to know a alot of people in the racing industry, so if there are any questions about certain trainers and jockeys feel free to ask!
Thanks for reading and i look forward to posting with you soon!

Welcome to the forum.
You are the racing manager for an owner who spends 9 / 10 ths of their money on L.S. Lowrys paintings ?
I don’t suppose you want to sell shares and / or horses do you ?December 19, 2011 at 00:40 #383212Welcome Lee,
It is a shame that Salford Mill’s name has been wiped from the records of the Racing Post. Comes up as Helene Mascot, even for the Derby.
I once went on a stable visit to David Elsworth’s at Whitsbury. Where I got bitten by Salford City! My own fault. Still had the bruise three weeks later.
My mother went to the village school with David Elsworth. I say school, it was one classroom with less than 20 kids. I believe he then moved to Ludgershall and went on to Tidworth School at the same time as Richard Hannon?
My father was at Great Shefford at the time Lester was there.

Better than having your toe trodden on by a horse, that happened to me when my other half’s beast trod on my foot and it hurt like a b*****d. Why don’t they ever take the hint when you scream and take the bloody hoof off, it felt like my foot was in a vice?
Welcome to the forum Lee. Your knowledge will be appreciated.December 19, 2011 at 08:59 #383224Gingertipster wrote:Welcome Lee,

Thats realling interesting, Small world! Yes its a shame but i expect when the RP changed the name on their system it changed them all automatically, and Salford city! you were lucky to see him, he only ran one race for tony winning his maiden, then he was sold to Michael tabor for £700,000 he ran twice for michael, and was sold to america where he got a hefty injury, came back over the jumps and didnt impress!
Yes david was at whisbury for a long time to be completely honest im not sure why he moved to newmarket and to this day had not answered that question! saying that his yard is only about 500 yards from the july course at newmarket, and he lives in the kings old house!
Nice to meet you! Lee

I don’t suppose you want to sell shares and / or horses do you ?Yes i am, i thought there might be some curious posters on this forum, i have alot of proof of who i am if anyone needs it with pictures of me and salford art, pictures of me getting her winners prize at windsor, and i think somewhere pictures of me at newmarket in the winners enclosure with her!
And yes tony is the biggest private collector of L.s Lowry paintings, most of them being in the salford gallery "the lowry"
And no there are no shares to be sold!

‘s results archive is founded on a relational database model rather than a multi-value one; so changes such as those to a horse’s name will always apply to its entire career thereafter, regardless of whether the name that then displays for a given race result was the correct name at the time.
Creating two separate database entities for a horse that undergoes a name change would uphold the historical accuracy, but create other problems in the process.
See also races like the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham, whose back results on the

archive display all the amateur riders to have turned professional subsequently as already professional then (which of course they weren’t).

Adoptive father of two. The patron saint of lower-grade fare. A gently critical friend of point-to-pointing. Kindness is a political act.

Thankyou, very informative! I wouldnt of known as i have never really looked into it,
thanks alot, Lee
December 19, 2011 at 12:07 #383239I can understand Salford Mill appearing as Helene Mascot in the database. But you would’ve thought when "Salford Mill" was put in Horse Search, some comment would come up, even if it’s just "see Helene Mascot". You’d think there was never a horse called Salford Mill, all you get is "Sorry no matches found".

December 19, 2011 at 18:15 #383285I remember Le Garcon D’Or well, He was a favourite on the Scottish circuit and I saw him run a number of times, the last one at Lanark shortly before it closed.
Welcome to the forum (though you make me feel old!)
December 19, 2011 at 19:05 #383288I never saw Le Garcon D’or but I vividly recall his name from the halcyon days.
December 19, 2011 at 19:14 #383291Yes he was very popular up in the north… well horses couldn’t travel far back then, I spoke to my grandad today about it, he said "he won 34 times.. it should have been 35, he had been gambled this day into odds on favorite and I got him beat a short head, I should of won.. he will never be forgotten, and neither will I After getting him beat!"

Funny you should say that, Lee. I’m still waiting for their tipping-competition staff to update my tally from Friday, after two emails; admittedly, the second one asking them to "pull their finger out." Not that it’s the first indication I’ve had of a risibly slack attitude on that part of the GG site.

Heres something that might interest you ginger, was speaking to elsie about his horses hes had through his hands, and asked him about where he got the name idea from one of his horses and he replied "it was named after a girl i went to school with"
If you dont mind me asking what is your mothers name?
