Hi People!
Today, I accepted the job at Arapahoe Park in Denver, Colorado from the middle of May to August. Really am looking forward to it and its great to get a job in this dire economic climate.
I believe Arapahoe has been on ATR in the past but I will be on ATR on March 22 (Sunday) and March 25 (Wednesday) where I will make my full debut as a flat racing commentator in the USA. In the past, I have called a few races on a card, but this will be the first time going solo for the whole card.
Many of you have been very supportibe of me ,so I would like to say Thanks and I know Cheltenham is next week so this will probably slide down the scale fast, but if I remind you all closer to the date, if possible, you can hear a race from me at Turfway Park on the 22nd and 25th March, it would be appreciated!
Thanks
Craig
March 6, 2009 at 02:49 #213718Good luck and dont put any of those "Americanisms" into your commentary "24 and change" "at the split" etc remember your an English
Gentleman!March 6, 2009 at 02:51 #213720I avoid Americanisms in my commentary as much as possible. But will throw in the occasional "As they pass the quarter pole!"

March 6, 2009 at 02:52 #213723Congratulations, Craig. Very well done…
March 6, 2009 at 03:07 #213730Craig – I’m absolutely delighted for you. Very well done.
March 6, 2009 at 03:14 #213733Is that the same Arapahoe that’s just applied for voluntary bankruptcy earlier today, Craig? Bad luck, mate.
(I jest)
March 6, 2009 at 03:48 #213752Put it in the right thread this time.
Well done Craig – all the best.
With two Brits calling over there this season it looks like a takeover is beginning.
All we have to do now is start weaning them of the mucky stuff on to teh green stuff and we will be making some progress.

I met Mark Johnson at Godstone point to point on Saturday – what a really nice chap – and he says he is going to try and introduce the Americans at Churchill to the joys of jumping and point to pointing.
March 6, 2009 at 04:53 #213759Mark will have an uphill job there!!!!!!!!

Ooh, was the commentating? Thought it was only really Tweseldown, Kingston Blount and Kimble he can fit around his itinerary nowadays.

Good luck with that project! Mind, I imagine he could always try to up the profile and coverage accorded to the likes of the Saratoga steeplechases.

March 6, 2009 at 15:18 #213809Craig – are you going to be in the UK any time during the Spring? Not for me to promise you any work, obviously, but as I think I mentioned previously, your mentor Robin Gray commentates at all three Hackwood Park point-to-point meetings (confirmed as Sunday 29/3, Easter Monday 13/4 and Monday 4/5).
Bet he’d like to catch up with you – his glowing tribute to Mark Johnson upon getting the Churchill job is a good indication of how much pleasure he derives from what his former charges go on to achieve.

March 6, 2009 at 19:15 #213899Hi GC!
In fact, I was speaking to Robin earlier this week!
So Robin is very caught up with my goings on and is a good and wise friend!
If you are there, buy him a drink for me!
