Isn’t this simply inflation?
I don’t buy the RP, but it’s cover price should be compared to a Timeform racecard (if such a thing still exists) not a national daily.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"November 17, 2021 at 15:01 #1567906Reported!?
Thats seriously weird…
November 17, 2021 at 16:50 #1567914On with ian the timeform analogy is about right
I really like the weekender which is stronger now than in the past I tried it on iPad but hated that format
Also the rp Big off paper is remarkably good

I can’t get on with kindle and such like. Not for me at any price, or free.
November 18, 2021 at 09:18 #1567947I think it was my reference to food banks that touched a nerve but I’d like to know what a food bank attendee is doing on a betting forum
I object to my cans of pedigree chum being wasted on those that can’t keep out of the betting shop
November 18, 2021 at 10:17 #1567950“There is no greater joy in this world than locking yourself in your own water closest, making yourself comfortable for the ridding of bowel movements all the while whilst reading the Racing Post from cover to cover.”
That joy is enhanced when you discover there is no loo roll.
November 18, 2021 at 10:29 #1567951Well, I think….
This post has been reported for inappropriate (and particularly dismal) attempts to think

Reported for this appalling syntax I hope
I forgive you. A long evening pissing a tenner up the wall in The William Webb Ellis does impinge on thumb aim
BTW, the BBCodes don’t seem to be available, so I couldn’t embolden and italicise the quote
November 18, 2021 at 12:06 #1567955“Aside from the Post, the cost of race cards is ridiculous now”.
Absolutely! Time was that you’d get one as part of the entrance fee at many courses, which is perfect for targeting new racegoers struggling to understand some of the jargon to enhance the experience (which, supposedly, is what the industry is striving to do). Now they are about a fiver and most casual punters don’t bother

I believe it only exists in download form these days, Ian – not on course.
However, unless it has completely changed the Racing Post has less accurate ratings and analysis – so no way can it be compared to a Timeform Race Card.
Had no need for a Racing Post for a decade or more, other than when I used to go racing – using it as a glorified race card – usually better value than the official race card.
Value Is EverythingNovember 18, 2021 at 13:58 #1567964“Isn’t this simply inflation”?
Wouldn’t have thought so.
Has inflation gone up 500% since the eighties?Value Is EverythingNovember 18, 2021 at 15:14 #1567971Fair enough – prices have more or less trebled since 1986 when the RP launched.
It’s pagination has expanded massively, however, and it is not really the same product nowadays.

Indeed. Probably half as many meetings back then (no All-Weather until 1989) , very little sports betting, football bets restricted to trebles and upwards if you were lucky, mostly five folds from the “long list” (euphemism for list divided into sections of which one will exclusively feature games that are 15/8 all three outcomes). Etc.
November 18, 2021 at 17:51 #1567979Haven’t read the Racing Post post for years now. I subscribe to Geegeez Gold which is in a class of it’s own. The amount of data and the interactive racecards make the Racing Post look very dated.
November 18, 2021 at 21:25 #1567997The RP is priced as a digital paper ie. (Digital price : £349 for 12 months = £349/365 = £0.95 p/day, Paper price : £2.9p/day * 365 = £1,058.5 p/year) in effect Digital £349 v Paper £1058.50
There are some criticisms you could level at the paper itself, none of the RP journalists will be winning a Pulitzer prize for journalism , Paul Kimmage/David Walsh, journalists who who have broken the biggest racing stories in probably 20 years as of now won’t be getting a weekly column on Sundays, half the paper is basic form lines of the prev 3 races etc but for £1 a day I would argue it is competitively priced
