Istabraq hurdle 29 December
These two go head to head again, Hurricane fly has had a few problems this season and is making his reappearance in a race he won last year. Is available at evens.
Thousand stars who has always fallen short against the fly is in the form of its life and has the benefit of a run under its belt, which it won easily. Available at 2/1.In my opinion if the fly turns up fully fit, he will win and evens will look a massive price. But he could need the race although he is good fresh. Thousand stars is a class horse it its own right but dont think its FLY standard.
What are your thoughts???

BOOKMAKERS Paddy Power have suspended betting on next Thursday’s Istabraq Festival Hurdle with uncertainty surrounding the participation of ante-post favourite Hurricane Fly.
The firm reported support for Hurricane Fly’s Willie Mullins-trained stablemate Thousand Stars on Wednesday afternoon, but were forced to close betting on the Leopardstown Grade 1 later in the day.
Paddy Power, a spokesman for the bookmakers, said: "The cash has just kept coming for Thousand Stars and we are just too in the dark about what’s happening until Willie Mullins lets people know what’s going on."Punters lack of faith in Champion Hurdle hero Hurricane Fly was fuelled by Mullins’ limited detail regarding the seven-year-old’s wellbeing and plans.
Mullins has issued little information about owner George Creighton’s star since ruling him out of the Morgiana Hurdle in November, but did leave him in the Istabraq Hurdle at Tuesday’s confirmation stage.
Speaking on Tuesday, Mullins said: "Hurricane Fly is left in the Istabraq Festival Hurdle. We’ve also left in Thousand Stars and I’ve really nothing more to say at this stage."
Hurricane Fly can be backed at 9-4 for the Champion Hurdle with sponsors Stan James and Sportingbet. Paddy Power quote 7-4.
December 22, 2011 at 09:02 #383660I’ve normally got nothing bad to say about Paddy Power, but i think it’s pathetic that they’ve closed the market on the race because there’s a gamble on a horse
Bookies take too much money out of the game anyway, generally offer poor odds, and don’t get me started on what’s happening in the betting shops these days.
More profits, less value, worse product.
December 22, 2011 at 13:47 #383710I agree mate, bookmakers got no balls these days, soon as theres big money around, they take there ball and go home. lol
I think its a false gamble anyway, considering both horses are from the same stable, got to be some dodgy stuff going on.
Hurricane fly will run and will win, guaranteed.

December 22, 2011 at 14:06 #383713Given what happened in the Morgiana and the stable’s lack of communication, I don’t think Paddy Power have done anything wrong, except maybe to offer prices in the first place. I am certainly no fan of bookmakers and their practices, but when they get hoodwinked once then second time around, they’ll look like mug punters.
It’s got nothing to do with liability, one has to maintain integrity.December 22, 2011 at 18:41 #383749I agree mate, bookmakers got no balls these days, soon as theres big money around, they take there ball and go home. lol

It’s like when they report money for a horse antepost and clip it from say 12’s to 10’s. What a crock – they’re just increasing their margins
Many shops will not allow bets of more than a £100 or £200. You want to place a larger stake and they call head office. These are companies that make millions of pounds profit and claim to be beneficial to the industry. Looking at the state of racing in England, be nice if they put more money in.
Banks on a smaller scale.

I used to manage at Hills and have to agree, usually the first thing you walk into of a morning is to not take any bets of over 50 quid on the pricewise horses or any horses that had been backed heavily.
Cant speak for the other companies but when you ring head office they either dont take the bet or knock a fdw points off the price. I remember once they wouldnt allow anyone to take lucky 15 bets over a 30 pound stake, that plus the ridiculous hours did it for me!
Anyway going off subject id go for thousand stars to win with or withour the hurricane just for this race.
December 28, 2011 at 11:43 #384572No great surprise as Hurricane Fly misses the race, unless Mr Mullins makes a statement about his well-being I cannot see the bookmakers pricing him up for any race till he steps onto the racecourse unless its "with a run".
December 28, 2011 at 12:50 #384577Entirely predictable.
Questions need to be asked.
Did Mullins ever have any intension of running Hurricane Fly?
Has Mullins deliberately kept Hurricane Fly in two races, just to get a big price about another of his runners? Either for the benifit of himself or someone else.
I don’t know about Irish rules, but am pretty sure it would be against British rules.
I am not saying he has or hasn’t, just that the questions should be asked.

Does what Mullins said on tuesday fit with?…
From Sportinglife website today:"He worked against Thousand Stars on the Curragh last week over a mile and two furlongs and he needed it badly. After that I wasn’t happy I had him in order.
"I told the owners that I wasn’t happy with him and there was a chance he wouldn’t run tomorrow. I left him in and decided to make a decision late on.
Probably "told" the owners of Thousand Stars too.
So why not let the press/public know?
Irish racing press should not allow Mullins to get away with this non-information.
What would be said if Tony Martin did this sort of thing?
Value Is EverythingDecember 28, 2011 at 17:40 #384624Unfortunately, Mullins’ behaviour is now becoming more and more unpleasant and very little surprises you.
However, what does surprise me is the Racing Post paying the same trainer to ‘write’ (ho ho ho) a column about his horses every week.
Hey Willie, see that pile of money over there? Yep, that’s it, next to the old rope…
December 28, 2011 at 18:18 #384634Listening to trainers has become a total waste of time. Henderson is a total crook and Mullins isn’t too far behind.
December 28, 2011 at 18:27 #384639That is either "total" exaggeration or "total"ly wrong, or "total"ly libellous Zark.
Value Is EverythingDecember 28, 2011 at 19:11 #384651I don’t know Willie Mullins personally, but suspect that his first priority is his horses and owners, which in my opinion is OK.
I can’t think of any occassion where a Mullins horse has been obviously held back to land a later touch. Therefore, once a horse is declared the horse is going to run to the best of it’s ability. I hardly think this makes him a crook.
December 28, 2011 at 19:22 #384655If everything is well with Hurricane Fly then he should trot it.
December 28, 2011 at 19:31 #384659I’m sure Mr Mullins primary concern is the welfare of his horses, followed closely by the interests of his owners. However, one must be careful not to cut off one’s nose to spite the face.
The trouble is that there is a strong suspicion that he declared 2 horses for the Morgiana to engineer a better price on the only one that was ever going to run. With that suspicion already in place, the bookmakers have simply refused to price up a race that the key player has displayed a dubious integrity.
