Horses of the last couple of decades since we have had colour TV are OVER-RATED. Hurricane Fly was beaten by Rock On Ruby at the Champion Hurdle in Cheltenham 2012, and that settles this subject.
The greatest hurdler ever would have to be unbeaten over hurdles. I have seen many of his races, sub-standard Irish group races where his main opponent always runs no race.
This is nonsense; Arkle was not unbeaten, remember?
As for sub-standard Irish races, I recall that criticism the year he beat Solwhit twice, who turned out to be this 3-mile Champion, despite probably not as good as he was before his injury.I accept that "the greatest ever" is a value judgement, but I do think that The Fly has been under-rated and under-appreciated

Bummer for Monksfield, Night Nurse, Sea Pigeon, Comedy Of Errors, Bula, Persian War etc etc then!

Forgot about her, which is a shame. Her last race, if I remember correctly, was the Christmas Hurdle (run at Sandown that year; she strolled home on the bridle by 15 lengths. Unfortunately we didn’t see her again. Any progeny?
December 19, 2013 at 20:40 #462285What a machine Feathard Lady was! If I remember right, she had very bad conformation and I also think I remember Graham Wylie buying her as a broodmare only to sell her again a few years later. Haven’t heard about any of her progeny.
