Chris’s Dream 10-1
Been a Billaway backer the last 2 years and may add him we will see, for now I’ll throw a dart at the 160 chaser coming down in grade against these mid 140s horses off level weights. May find this easier than having to carry top weights in handicaps like he has been doing last couple of seasons. Had a look at the stats in case his age was an obstacle however the last 8 winners were either 10 or 11.
December 6, 2022 at 11:55 #1626023He’s no price, but I can’t see Vaucelet being beaten in this. One for the accas.
December 6, 2022 at 12:28 #1626025On the plus side, Chris’s Dream is already a winner of an Irish Point at Moig South last month and was handed an Irish Point rating of 121 for it.
On the downside the last time he ran off 162 he was beaten 50 lengths.
I’m a big follower of UK Pointing, but they’ve currently got nothing to touch the Irish.
Gladders has it right, Vaucelet is even better than Billaway and if he could ever learn to jump with consistent fluency he would be even better still.

Delta Work showed last season that you can drop down to ‘an easier discipline’ off 160 against mid 140s horses and thrash them. I’m not concerned about Chris’s Dream form last season as he wasn’t running against these ‘lesser class of horses’ off level weights. The question will be if he retains the required level of enthusiasm/ability to win the race come March being a year older. The p2p win the other day looks positive as he beat the same horse Vaucelet did last season by about the same distance.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 8, 2022 at 00:17 #1626198It’ll definitely be The Storyteller for me. Followed him for a good few seasons, and I’m glad he’s still going well, I’d assumed retired after his abrupt stop when last seen under rules.
I haven’t bet him yet, but I’ll probably have a few quid on at some point.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 8, 2022 at 10:31 #1626215I did look at The Storyteller – 12 next year, just the one horse this century won the race older than 11 and that was a Grand National winner back in 2004.
December 8, 2022 at 10:45 #1626216I’d say The Storyteller is classier than that horse (google tells me it was Forest Gunner? but i can’t see it on his RP Form)…..
Storyteller’s festival form is also a massive plus.

December 8, 2022 at 21:17 #1626273Chris dream was high up my Nat list at one point , that unseat in the Bechers when still traveling well , is there not a chance he,d go for Aintree , he,s still only 10
December 8, 2022 at 21:25 #1626275Chezza is the world’s leading authority on Hunters’ Chases and Point-to-Point and its high time he set you chaps straight on a few things.
These regressive, often aging, ex-NH chasers with once lofty ratings seldom win this race.
It’s usually won by a proper Hunters’ Chaser.
Sadly, there’s nothing in the UK right now to evoke memories of the likes of Castle Mane in the past but, although neither of them are the most fluent of jumpers, both Billaway and especially Vaucelet are capable of running to 140+ in the here and now.
I’d never back the former pre-race, because he invariably comes off the bridle in the paddock and can usually be backed at double-digit odds in-running.
But they are the duo to focus on right now.

I think he’s coming here this time.
December 26, 2022 at 15:25 #1628283Vaucelet wins at Down Royal – search party still out looking for The Storyteller.
Vaucelet – like Billaway – is not the most fluent of jumpers, and he’s often unimpressive too, but he tends to get the job done.
