Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere but it’s been reported that Keiron Burke has asked that Anthony Knott find someone else to train Hunt Ball and the horse has been taken out of his yard.
Seems like he’s had enough…
April 29, 2013 at 21:19 #437924In the words of many a failed comic, I suppose one shouldn’t cast nasturtiums about Mr Knott in the absence of any explanations.
But I can imagine he fits Andrew Strauss’s typically laconic description of Graeme Swann as being
"A very amusing man. For the first half-an-hour."

Bang on Mike, apart from the time period actually being two minutes, rather that thirty. In Caithnessian terminology I would be reasonably confident that the word "Pap" should cover it.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
April 29, 2013 at 23:52 #437947Good news for Burke. Glad he had the balls to make the decision and rid himself of that plonker.
April 30, 2013 at 00:08 #437949Take a look at Keiran Burke’s Twitter. It was churning out Paddy Power plugs daily. The horse ran with the logo aboard and the Burke website is littered with unsubtle mentions of Anthony Knott. Fair play to Burke for being true to his principals in halting this commercial whoring.
Hunt Ball is becoming a show pony. He has been running in clearly unsuitable races on soft ground, surely driven by Knott’s urge to land more gambles. Burke has been bound to attend various twee commercial events with the horse and brought before the stewards for the Paddy Power incident. Even balanced against the horse’s talent, these reasons easily justify the ending of the association imo.
I hope Hunt Ball does not go the way of some other horses owned by overly controlling owners. Knott’s plot to take the horse to Sweden, America and Ireland this summer make me uneasy. Remember Dawn Run and Venn Ottery?
April 30, 2013 at 12:59 #437998Sad ending to what has been a great story.
I’m afraid Mr Knott gives credence to the stereotypical country bumpkin image. He also seems to attract an unhealthy number of rather weird looking hangers on, which is rather disturbing.
I don’t think i’ll be setting foot in and around the rural West Country parts for a good while
April 30, 2013 at 13:22 #438000The plot thickens: has just been put up for sale by Anthony Knott.
Entered in Doncaster Bloodstock Sales, May 15, Lot 330

Maybe Mr Knott lost his shirt backing the horse to win the Paddy Power and Gold Cup this year.
April 30, 2013 at 14:40 #438008I suspect you’re right TYF. I recall him being interviewed after the Argento and saying along the lines of, ‘we will have to bring him back in trip now and into a handicap, I need to win some money back’
Sadly, he wasn’t joking.
April 30, 2013 at 15:22 #438009I bumped into Anthony at Taunton and he seemed his usual bubbly self, we had a good laugh and he gave me a lump on Hunt Ball scarf, which was a nice touch. Even although it’s probably his own fault it’s a shame as I like his enthusiasm and his heart was in the right place with the PP sponsorship raising 10k for the Somerset Air Ambulance.

Seems like a it of a knotter….
Be very interested to see who buys Hunt Ball. Only 8 and versatile.
May 1, 2013 at 13:32 #438098I think Paddy Power’s advertising ethic is a disgrace, they would plaster their colours across the jockey’s foreheads if it brought them some exposure. 50ft floating underpants at Cheltenham, footballers wearing PP underpants? Knott was silly to be talked into this stunt, even if it was "for charity". PP take no prisoners, even advertising guidelines are there to be broken for them.
I wont give my money to them personally.
Tone down the bloody plugging Paddy. We know you are there, your giant Y fronts make no difference to me, they just put me off of using your services.May 1, 2013 at 14:47 #438102It was good of Paddy Power to step in when Armchair Jockey scammed the forum in the Cheltenham comp a few years ago. I must agree that their recent advertising campaign has been much too aggressive, though.
