I know I’m cutting my throat a bit but I couldn’t resist a little bit each-way on Poet’s Vanity at 28/1. I followed her in the Spring, much to my wallet’s dismay, and I couldn’t let her go unbacked just one last time.
I’ve gone for her as well. The way she travelled in the Guineas was really eye-catching. I think seven furlongs is perfect for her, and I think she might like soft ground.
August 19, 2017 at 15:22 #1314442Due to the Freer time and allowing for the headwind it’s not as soft as expected… Backed Libreeza Breeze so that it is no longer a lay bet (still a loser).
Value Is EverythingAugust 19, 2017 at 15:40 #1314452at the current odds I like Massaat who can go well fresh.
Top marks Judge.

Cheers pal. I liked that one because his half brother won at Nottingham yesterday. Trainer just had another two year old winner at newmarket as well.

I know that feeling and it’s hard to think ‘I shouldn’t be greedy’.
You take the honours though.
Foret?
August 19, 2017 at 15:42 #1314456Does anyone have an idea what was happening with David Probert on Poet’s Vanity?

Poet’s Vanity’s best run was when able to dominate his field from the front in the Oh So Sharp, Degaussed. Also remember he made all in his maiden. Hasn’t been at his best when not leading this year. Probably doesn’t like being taken on in front and jockey did the right thing by keeping away from the other front runner.
Value Is EverythingAugust 19, 2017 at 15:52 #1314459Well done Judge, hope you got a good price on him mate
.
No complaints about Librisa Breeze today, no hard luck story, he ran
well but just ran into a very decent looking horse. It will be interesting
to see where Massaat heads next, he looks quite an exciting horse.August 19, 2017 at 16:01 #1314460Well done Judge, best horse in the race by far
August 19, 2017 at 16:07 #1314463Altough Librisa Breeze has the best recent form Massaat‘s 1 1/2 lengths second in last year’s Guineas would surely be good enough to win this? Likes cut in the ground too. Year’s absence is far from ideal, but the Guineas also came when fresh. Rather it was 1m but he’s 12/1. Obviously if a negative market move early tomorrow then it may suggest he’s unfit.
I think it’s far from certain Massaat will improve for that. His best form is when fresh. With going on the soft side and a headwind to contend with, I believe it tested stamina at the trip. If Massaat races again at 7f, BigG; imo will need soft ground to show the same form. On good-soft or good will probably need a mile. Too free and didn’t stay a mile and a half in the Derby, questionable whether 1m2f will suit.
Value Is EverythingAugust 19, 2017 at 16:12 #1314465Yep, I think the jockey agreed with you there Ginge. When asked if 1m2f would maybe be
his best distance, he said that 7f or a mile was what he needs. He was fresh today, but
has come back well from injury. One to watch for sure.August 19, 2017 at 16:23 #1314468An overreaction from Bet365 and Ladbrokes who have cut Masaat into 10/1 for the QE2.
August 19, 2017 at 16:27 #1314469Thanks guys it’s a nice little community on here

As for massaat going forward obviously the bounce factor looks large next tiwme out. Trainer said he was surprised by his win but often you expect them to improve next time out and they don’t.
You can see why they kept him in training though. lovely looking horse with a huge amount of scope. Just a real athlete. Was gutted he didn’t win the guineas but today more than made up for it.

Agreed Charles. although if it were to come up soft might put a few of the principles off.

Fair point. If that race is the plan then, as Judge says, I’d imagine Owen Burrows will get another run into him to take that ‘bounce factor’ out of the equation.
Personally, I’d run him in the Foret then back up in the QE2 and leave it at that for the year.
August 19, 2017 at 16:55 #1314476Bounce factor only happens when horses are not given enough time to recover after their first run for some time, Charles. If they don’t run again until the QEII (mid to late October) bounce factor won’t come in to it… And he’s imo best kept fresh anyway, so another two months off is exactly what he needs. If Massaat went for the Foret he’d have less chance in the QEII as (for Massaat) it’ll be too close to Ascot. Got to be one or the other… All imo of course.
