I am sure the horses will get around to rolling around feigning injury following a jockey back-hander.

Yes, we should definitely be guided on what to name an entire sport by the name of a pub!

I’m waiting for it to go tits up and take advantage of any cheap deals on unwanted souvenir shirts merchandise.
Just in case they turn paint ball into excrement ball and need something to wear.

Oh well, foxes are obviously a higher priority than the human beings killed every year by the Qatar regime.

No Cork, but its daft to say “well being instrinsically associated with illegal animal cruelty is on the backburner because Human Rights are more important.”

I didn’t know about this pub. In light of this game-changing information, I think I’ll send a stern letter to my MP advising her to lobby for legalising Fox Hunting forthwith.

Anyone would think it was only possible to think about one thing at a time. There are countless dreadful things going on in the world, but that shouldn’t be used to stifle discussion.

Phil Bull was right when he referred to racing as “the great triviality.”

But it’s OUR triviality and the manifest fact far worse things happen in the wider world doesn’t disqualify us from debating things that concern us in racing.

The fact something else is indisputably far worse doesn’t alter the fact that racing issues we are discussing might be untenable and need to change.

That Phil Bull quote is spot on. Well said Ian.

I have found this new cricket competition quite engrossing and superior to its close relative T20Twenty.The concept works well in the team sport of cricket, and while having a good few beers is for the audience an integral part of it all, they are at least watching the action in front of them and giving support to one of the teams. And as for damaging the traditional format of the game – well, I bet there are many youngsters who take to a player on the basis of a performance in the 100 Cricket, then at a later date see him playing in a test match and come to appreciate that form of the game.

In contrast, I doubt anyone is going to look at a race card and get the blood up watching the Hungerford because the captain of Team Swish has a mount. And I bet a large number at Donny the other night were boozing and chatting footy and not even making any real attempt to follow the garbage on show. Put it this way, the last Leger I saw live was the one Mastery won and there were hordes of people with their backs to the action boozing as the race unfolded. The engagement last night would no doubt have been a further tier down.

I`m lucky if I can find the odd nugget of interest in racing at this time of the year. A jaded palate doesn’t come near describing the apathy of encountering endless Newmarket Saturdays, northern sprint handicaps and exciting initiatives. It fails to mask that there’s far too much of it.

I’m a jumps member at Newbury sandown and kempton and go jumps racing around 35 times a year. A handful of flat meetings too

I don’t recognise a lot of what is posted. Yes music nights and ascot Saturday’s are best avoided but I recall really messy boozy scenes at York Newmarket Newbury and ascot 30 years ago

I never drink on course and not much anyway and as I’ve got older have become more intolerant of the boring boozy culture but is that the same as many posters here?

Food is much better too Ascot is genuinely good and sandown footwell plumpton spring to mind as not too bad too. And I’m not a junk food fan at all

A lot of punters simply chose to go online. The scrum that was Windsor on Monday nights in the betting ring has been replaced by the laptop. That’s it. It’s the punters who chose that not the courses

Sandown and Plumpton are two of the best tracks for food. Does that Chinese food stall still go to Plumpton, I wonder?

You could usually get a good pint of beer at those tracks as well. A local microbrewery used to have a stall at Sandown, making a nice change from the usual bland offerings.

They do! But I don’t much like Chinese. The pies are superb there too and that’s from someone who never eats pies

That is good to know. I think it goes to Fontwell too, and I am sure it was at Stratford the last time I visited.

Fairly standard Chinese fare – but a lot tastier than most racecourse food.

Plumpton is probably my favourite track but I have not been there for about five years.

Just seen a crowd of likely lads stumble out of the Wetherspoons in Liverpool Lime Street station, clearly all heading off to Haydock Park and already hammered.
