I was there first and foremost to do some paddock-spotting / feeds for the radio, Ginger; but you’re right, I also did a recce on how many bookies’ pitches were offering one quarter or one fifth odds each-way, and what the minimum permitted bets were with each.

That data did get fed back, along with that for a couple of other racecourses I’d visited around the same time, but I think the subsequent departure of the presenter on whose behalf that was done stalled the project. Possibly something for someone else there to take up, as they see fit.

I’ll let you know in good time if a repeat attendance at the Newbury thingy is likely. Annoyingly, Stewart Nash’s invitation to me this year got impounded by the bloody spam filter, so the first I’d heard of the event was a few days after it had taken place…

I think you will be crowned the TRF socialite of the year Jeremy – an impressive list.

One of the real boons of TRF for me has been meeting up with like-minded people from the forum. Safe to say meeting up with people from TRF has changed my life in some significant ways. For one thing if I’d never met Daylight in person (a lovely guy) I doubt I’d be doing this now. I’ve also had some fantastic opportunities to indulge my passion for racing in ways I never thought would be possible (e.g. I’ve patted a Derby winner and almost had my arm bitten off by an Oaks winner in the last 12 months alone!) and for those and many, many other great experiences I’ll always be grateful to TRF and, in particular, to LRM who took the brave decision to pass the reins to me after DL’s very sad passing.

    Anyway – here’s my ‘list’.

    Adrian
    Rob North
    Jim JTS
    Ozie
    Daylight
    Dungheap
    Richard Hoiles
    Lydia Hislop
    Clivexx
    Colin Little
    Irish Stamp
    Jim JTS
    Leemac
    Lekha85
    Mully
    Paul Ostermeyer
    Prufrock
    Rory
    Seabird
    A.L.Brookes
    Salselon
    Grasshopper
    Silvoir
    Grayson’s Column
    Wallace
    Tete Rouge
    Underscore
    RayH
    SteveH
    Roger Hunter
    Maxilon
John (Southwell afficionado – not sure of TRF username)
    Llanrumney Boy

and of course James Haycock and Charles Dalton Moore who help run TRF

Crikey there must be some more I’ve missed. I’ll be so embarrassed when I remember them!

And I can honestly say it’s been a pleasure to meet each one in different ways.

I’ve talked on the phone to a good few more also and have had correspondence with an innumerable number. And there are loads more I feel like I’ve met and whom one day I hope to meet up with.

99% positive (but oh that 1% have been hard, hard work!) :D

Moe, we were saying today that maybe Newbury for the Hennessey Gold Cup could be a goer. You should ask TAPK for a lift.

I think Moe mentioned Exeter in the Autumn not too long ago.

    Not far, on both counts.

I’ve done the Hennessey Nat; went with my dear departed friend Pete; we used to do a couple of meetings a year. Stood next to Robin Cook [and the Queen Mum was there]. Yep; Dartmouth and Exeter are the plan for this coming season; my friend from Cheltenham [the lady one] might be there as well.
