The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Clerk of the Scales that Daragh Bourke, the rider of DAMSON GIN, placed third, had weighed in at 10st 4lb having weighed out at 10st 2lb. They interviewed the rider, Raymond Shiel, the trainer, and the Clerk of the Scales. Having heard their evidence the Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule (B)67.4.3 and suspended him for 3 days as follows: Sunday 28, Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 December 2014.

This is not the first time this as happened, but can someone tell me how?

I know O’Regan did it a number of years ago which I beieve went towards his split with Howard Johnson. That episode still pains me know

Odd. This may be an absolutely ridiculous comment, but do they get rid of mud/debris prior to weighing in?

While I’m asking, is there any acceptable tolerance to weighing in? I’d imagine pushing and shoving an uncooperative staying chaser could feasibly result in losing a pound in fluids?

I think they allow a pound either way for lost fluid and mud
    But still bizarre

The only other contributory factor I could think of would be if the jockey had to dehydrate to make the weight, then maybe glugged back some water after weighing out.

Are jockeys allowed to drink following weighing out? This could certainly be the reason, as Mike says particularly following a fasting period.
