I was wondering, now that the dust has settled and most of teh glitches/mods have been ironed out, how people are getting on with the new-look site?

March 19, 2015 at 19:51 #847348Getting used to it David think I’m one of the few regulars who has yet to say thank you for all your efforts with the new site. I know someone else has mentioned this but I do miss having the option of reading the most recent reply to a topic. I’m also not wildly in love with the new emoticons but that’s just me being petty.
March 19, 2015 at 21:49 #847855I like it. :)
I am "The Horse Racing Punter" on Facebook

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 19, 2015 at 23:17 #848089It’s not too bad on my laptop but looks hideous on my iPhone. Oh well- you can’t win them all.
March 20, 2015 at 11:33 #848504Its ok Corm . I do notice the absence of some of the regular posters ….the overall vibe is not as good as yet
Hopefully in 6 months time all will be back to normal , for now its pretty tame
I like it personally …just wish a load of others would too
March 20, 2015 at 12:52 #848508Generally I like it but I really miss the option of being able to PREVIEW your post before you actually submit it, when it comes to copying and pasting results for the Saturday Competition I can’t seem to get the scores to line up directly under each other giving a sort of Mexican Wave effect. I noticed Johnny-B had a bit of a nightmare when he pasted his scores direct from his spreadsheet onto
the Forum for the Cheltenham Competition. What does ‘You can use BBCodes to format your content actually mean, sorry if that sounds thick and how do you upload an image if you want to, is it the same as the old way or easier?
It’s certainly an improvement now David and thanks for all your hard work getting this up and running, the Home Page is certainly very good, but would really like the Preview Option back if at all possible.

Had to have 3 goes to get rid of unwanted script when posting the emotion..LOL
think it proves how much I need the Preview Option.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 20, 2015 at 13:22 #848516Yes definitely still getting used to it and we will have to live with things what the old forum did which you can’t do on this one. Like the idea of showing when the post has been edited e.g. Triptych has edited her above post 4 times. That’s 4 attempts at reading the post before finding every spelling and grammatical error she originally posted
Not sure why it does the Wave effect. But looking at Tryptich’s above post, the 10th line down has a slightly different indent
The BBCodes are your Bold, Italics etc, although there is now no underline. I think you can get colours on here but have to type in your own code, I think, which to me is just a bloody pain.
All in all though a job well done Corm. A lot of hard work must have gone into this.

There’s no hiding place for errors now homer everyone knows when you’ve popped into your post to do a bit of housekeeping and I do it quite a lot as you can see, don’t see why we have to know how many times a post has been edited except in competitions and then it’s a great help.
Thanks for the explanation of the BBCodes homer I thought it was something to do with the BBC ;)
Re the Wave, your last line was out of sync too for no reason at allIt’s almost there, good work David and team.
I’m definitely not going to edit this homer

March 20, 2015 at 20:50 #848689I’m not keen on it
I don’t like the ‘floating thing’ at the top where it says ‘Racing Forum’ which the posts slide under as you scroll down
Also I have my internet page magnified to 150% because of poor vision and when I do that the ‘floating thing’ covers a third of the page and all the links where it says ‘Home’ ‘Forum’ ‘Cheltenham 2015’……they all disappear
I haven’t been here much since the change…….

think it proves how much I need the Preview Option.Me too. I like to read things over before finally submitting to make sure I haven’t spelt anything wrong. It’s much easier to do with a preview than doing it in the text box.
Also seems a bit odd to have to scroll to the bottom of a page to reach the “Make a New Thread” area, but I guess I’ll get used to it.
March 20, 2015 at 23:21 #848769Congratulations on it David. Although it doesn`t look quite the ticket yet it seems very serviceable
March 21, 2015 at 09:29 #849364To avoid misspelling and grammatical errors, why not do what some of us do and prepare any ‘lengthy’ or half-convoluted post in something like Word first of all, where those errors are highlighted and the text easier to preview, and then copy and paste a corrected version of the post to TRF text box (and add any emoticons etc. as desired) before submitting it?
The site is looking good. Everyone involved – so far very well done!
March 21, 2015 at 15:19 #850609No major faults from me David but ‘Cheltenham’ needs its own dedicated page if I’m putting up 40/1 winners on it as does ‘Big race discussion’.The last poster made shows up on the right but we dont know if thats in either of the above sections without checking first. There should be a ‘Reply’ facilty at bottom of page instead of clicking above last post made too but you’re getting there for sure.Cheers,Gord.
March 21, 2015 at 15:26 #850615I wouldn’t worry too much about those ‘missing’ members. Post-Cheltenham will always carry a sense of ant-climax, which takes a while to get over. Once the post-mortems on it are finished, and the flat looms, I for one will slip quietly away until November looms…though I might look in for the National :)
March 21, 2015 at 16:26 #851432Valued correspondents Betlarge and Nathan Hughes are notable by their absence: as both have had health issues, hope all’s well
The emoticons are vile, the red headers are still too bright and the white background is still too brilliant
However I’ve sorted all that out with tweaks of my own, so given that site speed is excellent all is more or less hunky dory

Best wishes to both gents if they are below par at the moment.
I was looking forward to Nathan’s feedback on Faugheen’s win, as I know he had him in some bets at 3/1.
Ultimately all the site administrators can do is provide the blank canvas. It is up to the users to apply the paint and create the picture.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
