Major bug bear of mine, horses not being ridden out to the line and jockeys not even being questioned about it.
Little Quest in the Newbury maiden earlier this afternoon an example. There is a video here on RUK’s twitter feed. The horse is second from the right in red with a yellow hoop on the sleeve. https://twitter.com/search?q=racimg%20uk&src=typd
To my eyes George Baker has dropped his hands and stopped riding the horse to obtain best possible placing at the 1/2 furlong pole. Could have finished third, finished fifth instead. Not even questioned by the stewards.
Its a *****ng joke.
May 13, 2016 at 21:59 #12458223rd wouldn’t have made much difference to each way players as it was 7 runners
but betfair’s place market would have had 3rd covered. You always read the quotes ‘not hard ridden on debut once beat’ etc
The horse will win a race and the trainer and jockey will get praised for looking after the horseGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
May 13, 2016 at 23:05 #1245837Not making any point about the each-way market here, Nathan.
Its fundamentally wrong that Baker can ride a finish like that, and going by the stewards report on the BHA web site, not even be questioned about it. Regardless of how its been backed.
I believe Gingertipster knows where the stewards room at Newbury is located. If he’s there tomorrow, perhaps he can have a word…
Are you having that one, Ginger??
May 14, 2016 at 07:07 #1245863I agree but it’s nothing new to see a two year old on debut not ridden out once beaten.
