Hi, anyone have any news on the whereabouts of crack hurdler Walkon and if hes nearing a run??? also i’m keen to hear about Fiepes Shuffle and if he’s ok after the injury picked up early in the year, thanks….
December 24, 2009 at 16:32 #265341Walkon met with a setback, Red Evie, and may not run this season.
December 24, 2009 at 17:43 #265355Flipper last ran in the Hamburg Lake Race in July. He wasn’t really fit, but the owner wanted to run him. He finished second, but his tendon was still an issue right up until the beginning of November when Flippers owner, Mr. Zimmermann, took Flipper and all his other horses from Christians yard and housed them with Mario Hofer in Krefeld. Mario tends to favour chasing in France and Italy over England, and I have heard unofficial reports thst Flipper could run at Auteuil in February, but it’s a case of wait and see really.
December 24, 2009 at 17:51 #265357Thanks Grasshopper. As always very imformative Anglo, it was you who somewhat reluctantly put me on ‘Flipper’ last year in his win at kempton i think, was looking forward to seeing him take the running in the champion chase but that never happend, I;m dissapointed he may not run in England again.
January 13, 2010 at 23:08 #269738It’s a bit of a bolt from the blue, but Flipper has been entered in a race at Dortmund this Sunday. It’s over 1800 metres (1 mile 1 furlong in old money), and the new trainer, Mario Hofer, has booked his daughter Steffi to ride. It wil be interesting to see how he gets on.

The DVR, the governing body of German racing, have entries on their website:

January 17, 2010 at 16:41 #270443Well, Flipper has just finished a tailed off 5th of 6th, 40 lengths behind the winner, Bucked Off, trained by Christian. I guess it’s a case of watch this space as to where Flipper goes next.
January 18, 2010 at 14:48 #270624Walkon won’t be seen again until Winter of this year, 2010.

not surprising on the hard sand track…apparantly he’s to have one more run in England, before going for the Champion Chase in Cheltenham…reaching for the stars, nochance, but jmo…
January 18, 2010 at 16:30 #270638Watch out for The Hollinwell; been harping on about this on a few other threads but I trust Murphy’s judgement that the horse could be a future star, and certainly jumped like a stag on his penultimate start. Has only had a dozen or so races and looks to have been carefully handled by Murphy so far, at 7 y/o this could be his season to win a decent race.
Aintree GN festival is likely to be his target, but will hopefully run in the next few weeks on the Northern circuit first. Soft, good to soft ground looks sure to suit.

Yes, Christian told me this morning, but I’ve been out and about all day with no PC access, so I wasn’t able to break the news – thanks for stepping in Beverley!! Yes, I’m amazed as well! I guess you were there yesterday with Rose n’Guns running, but although I wasn’t able to see the races, the feedback I got was that Flipper looked about 60% fit in the parade ring. If Hofer thinks he can get him bang on for a group 1 Chase in 8 weeks – well, if he won, it will be the training performance of the century!!!
January 19, 2010 at 09:03 #270778yes, we were in Dortmund Darren…once more a disappointing run from Rose’n Guns…
