I’m thinking about joining the Horses First Club.

I find their ‘philosophy’ appealing and at £10 a month the cost very reasonable. Just wondering if any formites are members or former members and would welcome any ‘insider’ views.

September 13, 2007 at 09:48 #114717I like that!
It sounds very innovative and £10 pounds per month is very reasonable if the horses are looked after like that.
Good luck to them! I might join them when I get back.Saucy Night
He is friendly and sociable, already gets letters from all around the world from people who love his story, and he absolutely loves to be involved in everything going on, the perfect Club horse who will love having a lot of new doting “owners”!
He has his own blog

Wish we had one over here to look after our horses…
September 13, 2007 at 10:33 #114724Thanks for the link to this, it looks very interesting.
I’m getting quite into natural horsemanship of late, and have been thinking of taking a course based on the Monty Roberts techniques for a while. Having read a book on horses MR has worked with during his life, I had wondered why join-up techniques, etc haven’t been used in English racing to more extent.
I particularly like the fact that members can see demonstrations of natural horsemanship with HF.
Cheers Pompete

I have been thinking about that course as well, but do you have to fly out to california? I was thinking about the Kelly Marks course for just a couple of days, i love Monty Robert’s join up methods he is a hero of mine and i try to use his techniques as much as possible especially with the racehorses
Its nice to see someone who is actually interested in this!September 13, 2007 at 23:53 #114863Simon Earle uses natural methods, keeps the horses outside at all times weather permitting! Keeps the horses in herds, runs the horses without shoes, uses sea water in the horse walker, and sometimes when he is loose schooling them he jumps on them bareback!
A trainer that doesn’t quite get the credit he deserves
a beautiful site there, thanks for the link!September 14, 2007 at 08:00 #114883I’m pretty sure Simon has given up training those horses.
September 14, 2007 at 10:01 #114902I believe they had a new trainer arrive recently, but don’t take that to be 100% accurate, this is me after all! (scatter brained halfwit)

Rainbow, you can study Monty’s techniques at Flag Is Up Farms I believe but obviously, as you said, it does have the slight inconvenience of being in America! So I’m more inclined to stay grounded and do the Kelly Marks equivalent course.
Tempting though, isn’t it….still I am going to see his tour this year, for the first time in ten years no less! Can’t wait for that.
I’ve been lucky this year in that I’ve found two instructors who breed and train their horses in very sensible, mutually beneficial ways as western riding horses and classic riding dressage horses. It’s amazing the difference in the temperament and willingness of the horses in comparison to ‘normal’ English riding stables, which sadly seem to be nowhere near as beneficial in comparison… I’m just very lucky to be based where I am at the moment!
September 14, 2007 at 20:35 #115020Good Luck Zoz hope it all works out for you
Yeah I think i will do the Kelly Marks course after all she has worked with the legend!September 16, 2007 at 23:29 #115279I’ve only just realised that this site is obviously Simon Earle’s idea as it has his horses in training and pics of Simon himself
didn’t even notice, glad he is sticking with his methods, doesn’t get the credit he deservesSeptember 17, 2007 at 00:05 #115282Monty rates Kelly as the best teacher of his method in the World and he is here in UK from September 22. Take your pick, they are spoiling you.
September 18, 2007 at 18:08 #115489Had that booked for ages, Robert99!
Cheers for posting the link though, hope some other forumites get to see the tour.
