    I suppose it’s each to his own really, and there is no exact science to this.
    I once had an interesting chat , back in the day , with Gordon (W) Richards at Carlisle. He was very much of the mind that he never wanted to push his novice chasers until he had got plenty of experience into them , and didn’t want to risk too much too soon.

    Good win today, but the race sort of fell apart and he will be no value for Cheltenham betting now. Topofthegame is the one to take out of it. I still question the wisdom of running first time out over fences in a graded race.
