It’s 2015, a year when people can talk and see each other anywhere in the world on skype, Whatsapp and Facebook, we can see the earth from satellites in space, we can even send drones with cameras but At The Races cannot get pictures from Hexham due to 50mph winds and they can’t even get a proper audio except for Gareth Topham’s dodgy mobile.
Seriously no one at hexham can set up an internet link or get a decent audio, yes the winds may stop the cameras from rolling but no one can put a camera on the winning line at the least.
June 6, 2015 at 17:19 #1096037..and the compiler of the Sporting Life race comments for Hexham was clearly not at the course, since there are no in runnnig comments until the fourth race for which there were pictures.
June 6, 2015 at 18:09 #1096087To be fair, it was stupidly windy to the extent that one of the more bemusing spectacles was watching a gull’s failed attempt to fly against it and a young lady wearing a low cut top that offered no resistance to the breeze. Her I was surprised racing even went ahead but it didn’t seem to bother the horses much which goes to show… I had to leave after the third because it was no fun whatsoever standing outside and if you’re like me, a packed racecourse bar with it’s beer and fart stench with shouty patrons is no picnic unless you’re also drinking, farting and shouting.
The news about pictures does bother me though. Am I to understand that when I get home tomorrow and watch the ATR recording of today’s events, I won’t find any visuals of the first three races (am particularly interested in the third)?

June 7, 2015 at 07:42 #1096852Sporting Life (i.e. the Press Association) stopped sending race readers to the tracks about five or six years ago, they do their “comments in running” watching the TV at home or they very rarely “plagiarise” the Racing Post comments-in-running – in the RP’s favour (and this was certainly true when I packed it in 18 months ago) is they do at least have their race readers at the track for 99.5% of meetings – the only time they don’t is when the race reader hits traffic problems or is sick at the last minute etc.

Indeed, I saw it happen with my own eyes… I just want to see the race without the wind several times over so that I can assess the chances of none of them getting placed at Market Rasen later this month… For the Juvenile Thread.
June 13, 2015 at 14:01 #11042262nd week and the pictures are playing up again, no wind this week but they clearly have issues with this track and it needs looking into.
June 13, 2015 at 22:21 #1104509I didn’t see any problems today though missed the early races
