I’d ignore the track record stat, how many years is there to go on 2 or 3? How many races in those years were raced on good-firm?
June 17, 2008 at 16:40 #168832I suppose the race should be rated on Twice Over running to Craven form, Raven’s Pass improving. Though did Cat Junior improve so dramatically? Suppose he was rated with a P in Timeform after his only run at two. A rare two year old first time out winner for Brian Meehan.

Value Is EverythingJune 17, 2008 at 17:05 #168842The horse is a very good 1-miler, dont think stepping him up in trip would suit him at all, he has found his best form, stick what he is very, very good at.
Raven’s Pass was running on very well at the finish and i think if they step him up another 1-2 furlongs, then he will be winning very soon.
Henrythenavigator has been very impressive so far this season, 3 group 1 wins is nothing short of a fantastic effort.
June 17, 2008 at 17:51 #168848Lol they say this every year about one horse or another.
It’s all about money and stud values.
Take it all with a pinch of salt and just believe what your own eyes tell you.
My eyes tell me Rock Of Gibralter would eat Henry for breakfast.
Alot of people think that the Rock never really had much oppostion except for Hawk Wing who had his excuses. Consistency, which he had and henry seems to have are great assets but on a good day, id fancy Hawk wing to have considerable more ability than any of them. For all his precosiousness, he was too soft for my liking.
I still think Zilzal was the best miler Ive seen and deserved the term superstar. But superstars are a very rare breed so lets not make Henry one just yet.

Agree SHL. A great horse
June 17, 2008 at 17:59 #168850Many Many people thought Raven’s Pass something special before the guineas.
Personally I thought he would run a big race today.
Horses who don’t get a mile on a straight track often get the trip on a round track especially those who run best when held up.
Raven’s is a very good horse IMO and he has run out of his skin today.
To say Henry beat nothing is totally unfair and bad judgement IMO.
He has now won three top races on the trot and on top of that beat a Derby winner and anihahlated a French 2000 guneas winner.
Little wonder O’Brian is excited about the horse. Really don’t know what people expect of this horse…perhaps if he sprouts wings, walks on water and feeds the multitudes he will get the recognistion he truly deserves.
June 17, 2008 at 18:10 #168852where would he have come today in Darjina’s race ? – first, third, fourth ?
June 17, 2008 at 18:13 #168854Henry must now, at this time be rated as a very high class 3yo miler the best in his age group, with the potential to become a great.
You must enjoy horses like him and hope he goes on to become a legend as this is what its all about.
would he beat haradsun or ramonti? maybe
on distance i feel a mile is max with 7f an alternative.June 17, 2008 at 18:14 #168855http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOk_fmj_SxY

Thanks Clivex, nice to see that again. I remember well that they seemed convinced that he was going to be beaten on the day (the TV pundits) because I think he was sweating very badly.

Agree completely about Zilzal.

I’ve been really impressed with Henrythenavigator in every one of his victories this season and he’s clearly a top class miler. It’s going to be exciting to see what he goes onto achieve in the rest of the season. I wonder if they’ll bother upping him in trip? I would have thaught with the ammunition they’ve got over the longer trips they could leave Henry to mop up the Mile races.
It’s probably best to wait and see how Henry gets on against the older generation before he gets compared to Giant’s Causway, Rock Of Gibraltar & Hawk Wing.
June 17, 2008 at 18:35 #168861He may not be a Rock, a Giant or a George just yet but he’s not far off and it’s only June. Very good performance again today.
June 17, 2008 at 18:58 #168870I TOLD YOU!!!
I didnt think o brien was just saying it.
Luckily i didnt listen to you lot and had a bundle on him
I have a feeling Royal Ascot could be good this year!

Henry clocked a faster time than Haradasun despite running round a corner. I think that tells you all you need to know….. Or am I being too simplistic?

It seems likely that Henrythenavigator would have won the Queen Anne, but the time comparison is indeed simplistic. The time of that race bears little relation to the abilities of the protagonists, due to the early pace, whereas the time of the St James’s Palace Stakes probably does.
June 18, 2008 at 13:18 #169060………but the Old Mile is allegedly stiffer than the straight mile and the going was likely to be slower.

I really do not understand the point you are trying to make, as that is immaterial if, as in the instance of the Queen Anne, the times the horses record are not reflective of their abilities.
And didn’t the O’Brien pacemaker go off like a scalded cat in the Queen Anne ensuring a very true test?
No.
June 18, 2008 at 14:11 #169072"I really do not understand the point you are trying to make………"
I wasn’t really trying to make a point, Pru.
I was pointing out that the Old Mile is thought to be stiffer, and that the going was likely to be slower for the part of the Old Mile run on the round course.
Those two statements were just that, you point about the races being run at different pace is taken.
Sorry if my post upset you!
