Just checking, but this is the same Joncol who won’t stay 3m at Leopardstown in Heavy ground in the Lexus? Okay, different pace. (Was on SH. )
February 7, 2010 at 15:57 #274697Come on Joncol,improving all the time,soft ground to suit, 3m? shouldn"t pose a problem! 2/1 will do for me!
Class horse who should have won the Lexus! Battled like a lion
7/2 in running after a circuit where he just hunted at half speed! Love Him!February 7, 2010 at 16:00 #274698On that evidence, I think it’s fair to assume that Denman would have destroyed this lot today.
Oh yes, and Notre Pere clearly needs all of six miles.

And Joncol wont even run in the Ryanair now! Not a 21/2m speed horse, he wants a test,he could be a Gold cup horse next year though!
February 7, 2010 at 16:17 #274702Cooldine’s price would surely have held up, if the stable were laying him out?
Dont you worry about Cooldine Leader!

Today was essentially a 2m4f race. I don’t like NP but he was given no chance by Lynch holding him up off that dawdle
February 7, 2010 at 17:41 #274715Good race in the end. Cooldine ran very well considering all. Joncol is a very solid horse and proved it today. Good ride aswell

Mullins and Ferdy must have the same dentist.
Joncol won well but Tom Dreaper must be turning in his grave. What on earth were they going with Notre Pere? Holding him up to get the trip?
Great racing from Ireland all round today.
February 7, 2010 at 18:55 #274738I love it! Well done, handsome.
A solid performance from a good horse who can only get better. You would think that, given his frame, we won’t see the best of him for another year, at least.
He possesses two attributes that will give him a distinct advantage in top class company – a high cruising speed and sound, quick jumping.
The Ryanair trip won’t pose a problem. He performed well over the minimum distance at the start of the season and, as I mentioned above, he has a high cruising speed and stays very well. The Ryanair will probably be run at a decent pace – something that will benefit him – and his stamina will be a huge weapon up the hill.
He’s very athletic for a big horse and really knuckles down at the end of his races – Cheltenham shold prove ideal.
This Cawley fellow is really beginning to impress. A young man who will pick up plenty of big winners, touch wood.
February 7, 2010 at 20:48 #274779I doubt he’ll go to Cheltenham for the Ryanair. Today was his Cheltenham this year. Paul will probably put him away for Punchestown now. He could be campaigned for the Gold Cup next year.
Good to see Cooldine back to form. He’s well capable of finishing in the money in the Gold Cup.

Considering the slow pace and the ground (RP has the time-based going as good today), he ran an absolute blinder and, given his conditions, he remains probably Ireland’s best staying chaser by quite a few pounds.
February 7, 2010 at 21:28 #274794The ground and the pace haven’t given Notre Pere anything like the test he needs so far this season and, if it’s genuinely heavy, he’ll serve it up to them from some way out and surely prove too good for this bunch.
I"m thinking why the hell is Reet defending that plodder Notre Pere and pretending the ground has "Good" in its description!
I can see why now! The race was run 36 secs slower than standard and yet Notre Pere still couldn"t keep up!!February 7, 2010 at 21:39 #274795AnonymousInactive- Total Posts 17716
Fortunately TAPK, the clock is a better judge of the ground than you, (as we found out yesterday at Doncaster ).

I cant argue with that Reet, Kalahari King supports your view there as he clocked an incredible time, only 2.6 secs slower than standard! I walked the course at lunchtime on Friday and it was saturated after 6 hours of rain! The turf must be laid on a sieve!
February 8, 2010 at 01:29 #274817Notre Pere would be an interesting National horse if entered would maybe respect the big fences more and shows he needs a real stamina test i know it would be a welter burden he would have to carry but i think he would have the class to go close.
