Good to see you still here, Emily. You won’t find a friendlier racing forum. I think the original exchange with Ben was one of those unfortunate results of both posters being unfamiliar with each other’s ‘style’.
Ben’s droll point did resonate with me. We get about one student a month here with Please Help! post leading to surveys that are often poorly structured and sometimes so confusing you need to quit part way through. I cannot recall one of the OPs – besides you – who ever came back to respond to comments or suggestions.
Anyway, good to have you here. I hope you stay with us. We could do with some common sense :)

Kind words, Thank You.
November 12, 2016 at 18:23 #1272312Best of luck with the dissertation Emily, will you be attempting to determine a control to measure the effect of social media on attendance against ?
Presumably there will be a relationship between the standard of meeting (champions weekend) and the effect of social media combined with other sources (print / radio / youtube / television) resulting in increased public interaction / attendance. Any data Ascot / Newmarket could provide might be worth looking into considering british champions weekend has been creating video content throughout the year for their events that should be easy to measure public interaction with, any snapchat data should also be easy for them to gather viewer figures / public interaction fromNovember 12, 2016 at 18:45 #1272314Sorry off topic and don’t mean to hijack your thread, but did you used to post on betfair back in the olden days rollotommasi?
November 12, 2016 at 19:29 #1272322I’ve only occasionaly posted on the betfair forum Viltash and mostly checked out the Irish sports / breeding sections if I did look in, I’m not a big fan of it and prefer to use Betfair for betting to be honest !
Re: the betfair forum olden days reference I remember Kevin Blake used to be a regular contributor under his monikor Irishwhisper at one stage if I’m not wrong…November 12, 2016 at 20:50 #1272334If Emily had replied with an insult to me it’d actually make me smile, either because it shows she’s game for a fight (which I always respect and would have no intention of getting into an internet war with her) or because it shows she knows I’m just taking the piss and has that sense of humour too.
But when someone gets offended by something I consider petty, it makes me poke that stick a tiny bit harder. But again, this isn’t done in a hurtful or harmful way, more of a jokey/banter way, as said though it probably doesn’t come across that way when read online.
Ben, I question what you do in your spare time. It is not in my nature to be insulting and certainly not via a racing forum which was used to genuinely ask for help towards my dissertation. It was not meant to offend anyone just for those who wanted to help.
In my spare time I watch the races, football, nfl, golf, combat sports, play with my cats, smoke the odd herbalised cigarette, complete students surveys on the racing forum, may even step foot in the local pub if I’m feeling extra naughty.
Not sure if you actually read my replies, I mean you most probably did seeing as you wrote me another much desired message, but I did state, at least in some form, that I didn’t mean to be rude to you. My post was meant as tongue in cheek and wasn’t meant to be taken literally. I apologize if you felt belittled or insulted.
But as Joe stated, we do get a large number of students posting their dissertation surveys on here, I’m sure the vast majority of users on this site complete these for no personal gain or thanks, only for said student to never come back on here with even a quick grateful message. It just so happens that the one time I didn’t bite my tongue and said something the student in question came back!
I appreciate your interest in the sport and any hard work you may have done in and around the industry, or with horses in general in your years on this wonderful planet. ‘Tis almost magical that such animals exist, us included, and that we can share emotional bonds with such animals. Lifes too short to become frustrated over a few words on the internet.
November 12, 2016 at 20:59 #1272336Start to worry should Nathan start posting up crazy animated emotions on here.
I think Ben and Emily should meet up at a racecourse restaurant.
I’m sensing a bit of sexual tension between the two
it could be the start of something specialBlackbeard to conquer the World
November 13, 2016 at 11:06 #1272407Is it that obvious Nathan?
If that situation were to arise, it would be on me of course.November 15, 2016 at 11:15 #1272745Best of luck with the dissertation Emily, will you be attempting to determine a control to measure the effect of social media on attendance against ?

The data I am gaining from racecourses is through a separate survey which is sent directly to the marketing team, I am not focusing on gaining specific information on big race meetings however this will give me something to talk about in my discussion element rather than in the data collection.November 15, 2016 at 11:22 #1272746Ben – I think I have grasped your sense of humour and ‘banter’. You are forgiven!
I am only 7 participants off achieving my target which I am so grateful for as believe a lot of the responses have been gained for the forum so, thank you all!
