    Could you be more specific?

Every race in UK is classified as 1-6 already with additional classifications in Class 1 as Gr1, Gr2, Gr3, & Listed (although Gr2 is not necessarily higher than Gr3)

Alternatively you could class races by their prize-money, which is usually a good approximation of their general worth etc, although this wouldn’t be as useful at the top end

What I want to do is give each horse in the race a figure for class, so that each horse gets a rating.
I have tried prize money divided by wins, but i was hoping that someone might have some more ideas.

You could do worse than checkout the methods of Van Der Wheil.

Does not VDW use prize money dived by races won.

You’re right – and this rating gives one of the most reliable assessments of a horse …. he also states that it must be used as a guide in conjunction with other factors such as consistency, speed figures, handicap ratings, race selection, betting forecast etc.

    Good Luck!!
