Seems to work well for some and not for others i think.
Tevez won well on the polytrack the other day with first time headgear.
I would also say that horses like Hardy Eustace are better with headgear on as opposed to not wearing it.

Although that’s a very interesting stat you bring up there Mounty. Do you reckon the difference is due to the high level of first-time headgear wearers where it is a desperate measure by the trainer?

January 17, 2008 at 14:59 #135980you were warned…
January 17, 2008 at 15:00 #135981Prior to today’s race, which Hi Cloy won at 6-1, beating my selection into second place (someone up there truly hates me) Michael Hourigan’s record with his first-time blinkered jumpers (from 1 Jan 2000) was six winners from 69 bets (9% strike-rate, loss of £35.65 to a £1 level stake).
January 17, 2008 at 15:11 #135984His record with older horses in graded or listed chases in first time blinkers is now 411 (66% strike-rate, profit of 7.75 to a 1 pound level stake stake)
January 18, 2008 at 19:55 #136256With regards to first-time headgear being a positive, Caprio in the last race at Lingfield on Saturday looks just the horse to respond positively to the fitting of it.

Andronikos drops back in trip and runs in first-time blinkers in Lingfield’s 3.00 tomorrow, and looks the type who might benefit for both.
At 14/1 with Hills, it might be worth a few quid to find out?January 18, 2008 at 20:05 #136261
