HBF the body set up to represent the perceived interests of those who bet on British horseracing, has its next meeting soon, on June 6th.
Yes, I know plenty of us get very cynical when we hear mention of such ventures, but lets not forget all nine members of the HBF are doing this for free, in their own time. Their also people who come across as passionate, knowledgeable, experienced and engaged with horseracing on a daily basis, who like to have a bet.
Already they’ve engaged with the BHA and some of horseracing’s stakeholders on issues such as betting account closures and restrictions, the function of the SPRC, declaration of wind operations, mares in foal, and the raceday weighing of horses. I also understand the late withdrawal of horses due to going and the remeasurment of the flat racecourses is also on their radar.
Personally I dont see a better way of improving areas of concern for bettors, than dialogue with the people who may have the remit to effect that change. For example would the National Hunt racecourses have been remeasured, would the BHA now be reporting rail movement, distance corrections, watering amounts on their website, if everyone had just hissed and booed and left it at that….doubt it.
So if your a punter with any reasonable issues or suggestions on how to make your betting experience a better one, give HBF a shout. At worst your issue will most probably be aired to someone who operates at a high level in the sport. I’m also certain that correspondence from the betting public makes things easier for the HBF. Their email is comments@ukhbf.org
I’m putting this up completely off my own back, I’ve nothing to do with HBF.
I like what their doing though.
