Following yesterday’s news that haydocks baby soft trolley fences will be put on the flat course for this years betfair chase,i can’t help wonder why the bha allow a grade one chase round this gastly course?
September 13, 2013 at 11:30 #451083Sadly Haydock has turned from one of the best NH courses in the country into something approaching a joke.
Their main priority seems to be getting the booze fueled crowds in, especially for their summer meetings.
You have to seriously question their commitment to National Hunt racing – they certainly don’t seem to be overly concerned about quality – as long as they get people through the doors and into the bars they will be satisfied.
September 13, 2013 at 20:21 #451132Can’t wait until they transfer their entire national hunt action to Carlisle, it will happen one day.
September 13, 2013 at 20:26 #451133I’m with you, Phil. The uphill finish at Carlisle provides some great finishes and would be an excellent feature of a few high grade chases.
September 13, 2013 at 20:45 #451138I used to love watching the jump racing at Haydock with the Aintree type fences but now it is just like Southwell.
I’m not sure why they were allowed to change the course so much and still keep the big races.

Would not be allowed in the South.
Nobody within the BHA seems to be allowed to say/do anything against racing north of Cheltenham, just in case someone thinks Southerners are interfering.

Here’s to hoping. Carlisle deserves better quality racing. A proper stayers course.
September 15, 2013 at 07:09 #451318My personal feeling is that jumping at Haydock is on borrowed time and eventually the "jump" track will be replaced by a floodlit Polytrack (think of those lucrative Saturday nights at Haydock Park Racecourse & Nite Club Resort, think of the potential booze takings etc…it’s called progress y’know!).
I can then see the main fixtures spread across other JCR tracks with the Betfair at Aintree, Tommy Whittle at Huntingdon (moving the Peterborough to the same card), Last Fling to Warwick, Peter Marsh, National Trial & Betfair Finals fixtures to Carlisle. The Swinton will stay at Haydock on a mixed Hurdles/Flat card run on the flat track(s).
Of course I could be completely wrong, I’m not Mystic Meg y’know.
Wonder if the trolley dolly fences will continue to disintegrate as soon as a horse breaths on it?

September 18, 2013 at 10:59 #451650There was talk of a polytrack at Haydock circa 15 or so years ago COK – along with extending the 6 furlong chute back 2 furlongs into the fields behind in Golborne, though not sure how public this was at the time.
